I am getting a 68 camaro. I know nothing now about them. But I will. My dad had a 69 when little! I am 44 now.Now my question is...... The person I am getting the camaro from says they bought the camaro in 68 and her husband later on bored the engine from a 325 to a 350. Now in horsepower what does that mean? It is a 68 SS. Do they actually mean 327 to 350? It is an automatic. What does a 68 SS 350 camao do speed wise. Sorry if foolish questions. Give me time and I'll be up to speed. Been a surfer all my life not a motorhead. How times change.

sorry STICKIT but you are off in your info. you need to do a little more research before you give people advice. not bashing you here, just giving you a heads up because there is way too much bad info given out on this forum
the truth is that the woman has no idea what she is talking about.
as far as power goes, that is too wide of a subject to talk about on a stock engine because the base 327 came with 210HP and the 350 in the SS came through with 295HP so there would be noticable difference in just those 2 engines alone
a 327 cannot be bored to a 350. they have different cranks. the 327 also has a shorter stroke so it is a lot quicker revving engine (as is the 427 in the big block family) but the 350 has more torque to get you out of the hole.
usually a 327 gets bored out to a 331 and a 350 gets bored out to a 355 so you are just going to do yourself some research on the car if you are really concerned about the engine, and that's kind of useless right now because as far as you know, they could have changed cranks so the numbers could all mean nothing. the only true way to find out what an engine has, when people are that clueless, is to tear it down
hope this clears it up a little for you and welcome to the board

I agree with 1969SS. There is not enough info on the surface of your question to gove a solid answer. Take a look at the motor, near the passanger side valve cover. There are some numbers there, those aresome usefull numbers and we can get some info for you from those numbers, if not there are even better casting numbers at the back of the block, just behind drivers side valve cover. Those numbers will give you a starting point to determine what the block started out as IE, 327 built in 68 or a 350 built in 62. From there you will have at least an idea of what you have. I would say that the info you got is incorrect, like 69ss said you cant bore out a 327 to make a 350, not that simple. You would have to bore it out to the max, then get a bigger crank for thoe numbers, it would almost be useless as buying a 350 would be cheaper.
Then, like 69SS said, even woth those numbers you would have to tear the block down, remove the crank (or just turn it to find the numbers) and run those numbers. You might be able to get the numbers off the crank by removing the pan, it would be much easier to remove the engine though - perfect time for a rebuild, it might need it too.
Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Also I had thought that a 327 had a 4inch bore and a 3.25 stroke.....well if you bore the engine over .015, doesn't this make it a 350!?!?!

Yes, I was asking about the engine being bored from a 327 ci to a 350ci. It's been a long time ago that the work was done so she might not have the numbers correct. She bought it 39 years ago. Had the work on the engine and other things 30 years ago. When I get this baby in my hands I'll do my best to get the proper numbers. Thanks for the responses
