Growing up a buddy had a 69 z28 that was great ,this was around 75 ,always wanted one ,I now maybe able to get one ,maybe not an original z but maybe an RS SS, convertable, question is what to lookout for ,what is a must in doucumentation ,the full term of matching numbers always tought it mint motor trans and body , X-11 package, what is the main killer on collectability, just starting to look , good dearlier in these cars ?

X codes will give you appearance and engine in most cases on Norwood cars built after Dec of 68. The exception is X-44 which is plain camaro, non ss non z-28. RS/SS is X-22, RS/Z-28 X-33, and X-11 COULD be RS/SS 350. Other than that no X code for RS. The VIN will only tell you if it is a V-8 or 6 cyl. So the more documentation a car has the better. A car advertised as matching numbers will have part of the VIN stamped on the engine pad. If someone claims it make them prove it.
