327 or 383?
Hello guys,
So I have a 67rs that I'm building, I'm a newbie by the way lol. The car came with a 327 that supposedly came of a Corvette. The engine runs great but I was thinking about replacing it with a 383. The question is, should I keep the 327 or get the 383.

I am actually surprised there is any corvettes out there with engines!
check the engine #s then you will know what it came out of
there is no comparison between the two in my opinion. the 383 is a torque engine that will set you back in the seat in a heart beat

I gotta agree with what flat tire said, but on the flip side, I had a 331 (327 x 30) that was a great running motor that was hooked to a T-400 and 4:10 gears. That little motor was a strong running street motor that many found out it was hard to beat.

They all look the same from the out side. ITS whats on the inside that put the smile on your face. 383 all the way for the build. 327 are nice but you have to spin them up to get what you want. 4.10 gears are a lot of fun in town BUT its a long ride home on the back roads.

+1 on the 383 but first find out what you really have,'till you check the numbers you won't even know if you really have a 327 let alone a Corvette 327. It could be a 283 or 307 or 305 for all you know. Might even be a 350 or 400 so find out. If it is a Vette engine in good shape it might be worth some big bucks to the right buyer looking for one for his Vette.
Seems like every seller who has a 327 claims it's a Vette engine but you have to run the numbers to find out.
Here's a good link for you to read up on getting the ID of your Chevy small block.
