1st Generation Camaros Alive

I don't think so, it's just that they're mostly out only on nice days.
To know (roughly) how many are still in existence, without going by estimates, you would need to access DMV records from each state. Unless somebody already has compiled a recent database?
Or, we can start a head count... one 1969 here!

To put it into perspective, my brother has a 68 convert, a neighbor has a 69 RS (taken apart) there is another 69 down the road from me, another 68 down the road, and a real nice 68 that has done a couple of drive-by's past my house this summer (never saw that one before then). Not to mention other 1st gen's that come out of the woodwork at local cruise nights...at least a dozen or so. But, on a day to day basis, I rarely see a 1st gen on the street. Either that's pretty "normal", or I live in the 1st gen zone!

You might be right there. A few years ago we were out visiting the wife's sister in Californi. I can't tell you how many old Mustangs I saw on the road, and NO old Camaros.
I think we've been gradually working out a swap over the years.
You want Mustangs and earthquakes, go to Californi. You want nice old Camaros, come to the Midwest!

In my area I have noticed a shift. As the first gens went up in value I saw less and less at the cruise night and small car shows and the 1st gen sections at the large car shows just keeps getting bigger. Back in the 70,80 and early 90,s there was a lot of first gens scraped, mostly the plain Jain models. Even then the SS’s and RS’s where not scraped unless they where complete basket cases. But since the late 90’s very few have been scraped. Stuff that would have been scraped is now being restored. Heck a couple years ago guys where getting good money for cars that have been completely striped and left outside for scrap. I am not sure how many bodies Dynacorn can make a year but I bet first gens are heading the Cobra route.

No way will you ever figure that out, there's lots stashed away that haven't been registered in years, barn finds, race only cars, cars sold off overseas, totaled cars rebuilt and retitled, stolen cars retitled or in Mexico or elsewhere and so on.
According to the book I have in 1967 they built 220,917 Camaros.
In '68 another 235,115 and '69 yet 243,095 more.
Grand total 699,127 first gen Camaros built.
Taking a wild guess that maybe 50% are still around that would be about 300,000 cars.......

Hmm interesting topic. There's a great camaro club here in Orlando I've been meaning to join. There are alot of really nice 1st gens in the group. I think there's alot of 1st gen camaro owners down here since the weather is so nice most of the year but when I go to some of the bigger swap meets and car meets they are filled with alot of old
mustangs, novas, & vettes.
