Hi
I am replacing my roof liner in my 69. I have found a lot of information how to put it on, but I need help taking out the retaining rods.
Can someone help me with this?
Thanks

First action to take is pull off molding behind windows holding headliner onto roof seam, and pull out headliner from the roof seam.
Nest, label each rod front-to-back, as they are each different, aka, 1, 2, 3, etc.
Next, mark each hole rod is inserted into on each side of rod/roof.
Now you can pry out the end of rod, doesn't matter the end, from its hole, then pull out of holder in middle of roof, and rod falls out of other side hole with headliner.
Good luck as install of headliner is the reverse and pull tight as you go.
Yes, you will have to remove the mirror and visors and rear window molding.

Thanks for the tip. I have everything out, the rods marked, the new liner laid out... cleaned all the old glue off. Gunna take a deep breath and go for it.
I've since found a site on YouTube.. it is pretty detailed. The cost locally is $400+ for the job
I think I'll give it a whirl. Worst case I'm out $60.00.

Laid out liner and found center
Cut around center where clip is
Dry it with some pinch weld from local shop (15' for $35)
Stretched front and back (dry fit) used hair dryer to work out wrinkles..... worked surprising well!!
Dry fit sides and keep working on wrinkles. *Also needed to snip material in front of the rods to stop material from bunching up. Once most of the wrinkles were out I glued and stretched ans fastened the liner in the channels.
Cut off excess material.
Rough trimming. Will trim all of the liner once it sits for a while.
Front pretty much finished....
I still need to work on the wrinkles in the back (the boss quit ;-) )
First of all, I contacted a few auto upholstery shops in town (Yuma) The cost would have been $400.00 plus to install the headliner.
Not including the removal/replacement of the front and back windshield...which they said it was a must.. AKA it was easier for them....
I would have been easier with the window out but, it wasn't that bad.
I watched this YouTube video.. it pretty much walks you through.

Here are some random pictures of the headliner install. I took me about 6 hours to do the job once I had it ready to put in.
First, I put a small space heater in the car and rolled up the windows. It was about 50 degrees in the garage.
Stared by clipping in the liner in the center clips.
*** Put the screws back in on the mirror, rear view, seat belt clips, coat hanger.... to find the holes later****
With the car warm, the liner stretched easily.
Dry fitted the front. Started retaining in the center... worked to the left, pulling forward and left.... then pulled to the left. I borrowed the boss (wife) to pull to the sides so I could set the pinch weld with both hands.
Repeated this in the back window.
Used a hair dryer to work out the wrinkles (used the boss for that also while I kept stretching.)
After the wrinkles were under control .... took the deep breath and applied the Permatex weather sipping glue. Used a Popsicle stick to spread it.
I did the same process as the dry fit. A little tricky in the corners.....take your time when snipping the material ... you can't un- cut the material. (my biggest fear..) It worked out really well actually no boo boo's
The last picture shows a few wrinkles in the material, but I have not used the hair dryer on that part yet. * in the video, he said that they would work out on their own... but I will keep at it.
Some extra material came with the headliner. There is enough material to do the sail panels.... but the pattern runs the wrong direction.
I could not find the material for sail panels on line... just the ready to go ones.
I think I will glue the material to the cardboard anyway. If it looks goofy, I'll go ahead and buy the drop-in ones.
I hope this might help someone tackle their own head liner. Especially if you have the window out.......
I am brand new to this site and I am still trying to navigate. If I messed up somewhere, let me know how to do it right..Thanks
Good luck and enjoy your car!!!
Thanks...
Now on to the next step.
I got the new carpet in and now it's the gauges.
Decided to go with Auto console gauges......silver face.. they look great. In the past I had a cheesy set under the dash...
I have the gauges coming as well as the new console harness. I did not want to buy a new under dash harness just for the three gauges that I will use.
OIL, Amp, temp. (I will use the dash fuel gauge... I understand if I tie them together they will read half value..?)
Anyway, can I pull the pins out of the old console harness and add them to the old dash harness in order to run the new wires? I cannot find the terminal pins on line.....do you know where I can get some?
Or, just run separate wires.
I apologize if I am messing up on the forum... still very new and don't really know where to ask.
If you think I should start a new post for this let me know.
I would like to do the history on the car, but not too sure how to do the pictures and stuff.
Sorry to bother you with this, but you have been very helpful.
Thanks for reading this

If me, I'd run new wires for those three gauges and their lights.
Tie lights together and plug into ACC spade on fuse panel as they will come on when key is in IGN position.
Do not connect both gauges together. Just use the dash gauge and let the other gauge be a dummy.
