Default 1968 camaro fold down rear seat conversion

im want to change my 68 rs/ss camaros rear seat to a fold down. i already have the seat and i think most of the other parts for it. i was wondering how big of a job it is before i go and start pulling the old seat out. its not the original cover so no big problem there. i just dont know if i need to pull the orignal carpet and quarter panels next to the seat out. i also pulling the orginal front seats out to put new foam in and coverting the original deluxe interior to houndstooth.

Pulling the old seat out is pretty easy. Push down on the front of the lower rear seat on both sides (drivers and passengers) and slide it forward out of the retaining slots. Then it comes right out. The upper part you'll have to remove a couple bolts after the lower part is out, but that will then come right out. No need to remove carpet or side panels. As for the folding rear seat, I have no idea there. There is a lot of bracing behind the rear seat (between the seat and trunk) that wouldn't make a folding rear seat really worth doing (no real significant pass through from the trunk). And removing this bracing I think would really loosen the body up a lot.

I have a fold down rear seat and the quarter panels on the inside are different than non fold down cause I think seat bottom is narrower across the car. my ash trays are on an arm rest and my friends are in the side of the quarter panel vertically and mine are horizontal

Latch for the fold down seat goes on passenger side of trunk wall. Only 1 latch, nothing on drivers side. Fold down seat was only so you could put stuff in car without setting it on seat, I used to put my tool box on it when I was younger, you can't get into trunk with it down because of bracing, there is a panel that bolts on to hide bracing

i am looking at a 68 rs/ss that has this fold down rear seat as a factory option. was this option rare on the 68? it also has factory 327 double hump heads on a numbers matching 350 any ideas how rare both these options are?

fold downs are pretty rare in coupes. it depends if they are 1.94s or 2.02 heads. but if was not an option. if the car is a numbers 350 and has 327 heads them someone switched the heads on it at one point in the cars life.
