Default 1968 Camaro engine worth?

I'm new to the world of being a gearhead. I have a 1968 Camaro that I want to put a different engine in the car because the motor now is a high compression motor that requires 100+ octane. I want to sell it and put in a different motor so I can drive it around town that has decent gas mileage. What do you think I should ask for it? Here is what I do know about the engine. LS7 454 bored 60 over to 468. It has GM square port heads that have been ported and polished. It has a roller cam just not sure on the specs. It has roller rockers with Stud girdles. It has 7/16 rods with 12 1/2 forged TRW Pistons. Team G Intake Manifold that has been matched ported to the heads. Holly 1050 Dominator carburetor. MSD ignition The transmission is a super t10 4 speed. The rearend is a 12 bolt with moroso brute strength posi. It has a Multi leaf spring rearend with traction bars with sub frame connectors. It has stock front disc brakes and drums on the back. It has a NOS cheater system that is setup for a 150 shot. Click on the album below to see the motor

Thanks for the reply. The motor is pretty new. I guess it would be best to keep it in the car so who ever wants to look at it can start it and listen to it..

Built motors like this define the word depreciation. Used racing parts do not sell for a lot of money. Why? because there is no way to know their condition. Was it put together right? Was the machine work done right? If it has been pounded how much life is left? If it has not been pounded how will it react to its first pounding. Add in the word nitrous and the value drops even faster.

You will be lucky to get 1/3 of the price of the parts, forget the machine and assembly cost.

Keep in mind for about 8K you can buy a complete GM 502 Pan to carb with over 500 HP stock and a 2 year 50,000 mile warranty. Hot Rod magazine has pushed that setup to over 900 hp in multiple projects with both super chargers and NO2.

There are a lot of people that have low miles performance motor for sale because everyone is switching to LS motors. The market is saturated.

T10 have dropped in valve, I had a guy offer to sell me a Muncie M20 for $500 the other weekend. Seems everyone want OD.

Your 12 bolt is still as valuable as every but do you really want to pull that from working car? Are you planning on too much HP for the 12 bolt?

I am not beating up your setup it is just the world we live in. With the big push for LS and 5-6 speeds what was a high end setup is not considered obsolete.

Gorn,
Thanks for the honesty. I'm new to all of this and I want to learn the ins and outs. The car was a gift from my step father and I'm wanting to get a different motor that would be more manageable.

Hell of a nice gift! One thing you might be able to do is find someone who wants to swap a nice small block for that killer Rat, someone who wants a hot rod engine like that and is also a good enough mechanic might swap you and do the labor too just to get that engine.

That's a good idea. I'll look into doing that once I've done some more research on engines that I may be able to trade for.

Pretty much any small block from the 1960's -1980's will bolt right in and up to your bell housing, you would need a different flywheel and small block headers but the rest can stay. You didn't say what gear ratio is in the 12 bolt, if it's got low drag race gears you might want to swap in something a little more highway friendly.A good running mostly stock 350,stock compression with a mild torque cam and the right bolt on's without too big a carb and a set of 3:73 gears in that 12 bolt and you'd have a nice driver that runs on regular gas and still sounds real sweet.

Welcome to the Club.
Went to the site and looked at your ride - very nice and excellent - correct year - BTW.
If considering going to a small block, figure in getting accessory bracketry also as BBC won't fit SBC.
Good she is fitted with an internal regulated alternator - makes the MSD ignition work better.
