Default 1968 Camaro advise

I was searching for a 67/68 RS/SS convertible, but have since "lowered my sights" on a verynice 1968coupe.

I found this 100% bone stock original (except for 1 repaint) in Southen California. It was supposedly owned by 2 older women (Pasadena??) and it shows... It is original down to the working am radio and 250 cubic inch 6 cylinder engine.

It shows about 100,000 miles on the odometer which may be original..... The car appears to be 100% rust free in all of the places that these cars usually rust, and I could not find any bondo at all, even with the vinyl roof... As I said the car appears to be 100 original including the interior, engine , trans and top.

My question is the value and collectabilty of the car being a stock 6 cylinder /Column shift Powerglide car. The only option I noticed was the power steering.

The owner is asking $13,000 for the car...Is this a reasonable price and if not what would be a reasonable offer.

This is the first one I have seen that is 100 % stock and unmodified. The only non stock thing I noticed on the car is the chrome rally type wheels...

The only mods that I would consider at this time is to re paint it a different color, and change the interior color.. I was thinking Marina Blue exterior, and blue or black interior.

Are there any performance mods that can be done to increase the HP of the 6 cylinder engine?

The car will be primarily a weekend cruiser and local car shows

I would get it. Good price and 13k. Nothing much you can do with those old V6's that would be less expensive than buying a crate and having a 350. Keep it all OEm and you will have fun at the shows, not very many 67's (or first gens for that matter) anymore with a V6 in it.

I would buy that car and KEEP it just like it is NOW. 6cyl original cars unmodified are becoming extremly rare. It wont be long and them babies will escalate in value. 13k isnt out of line at all. Is there any documentation with the car ? pop ? window sticker? buildsheet ? If you purchase that car and paint it mod it it would be unfortunate Imo.Cars with original paint and drivetrain will bring morecrowds in at any car show event. But it would be your's nobody can tell any different.

Thanks for the advise....I know this is a 1 in a million car as far as originality.
The only reason I would repaint is that I personally don't like the original green color...Just a repaint of a different color wouldn't hurt the value too muchwould it? This is something that could be changed back if desired.
I don't think I would find another one this clean..,. The body on it is pretty much perfect and straight. It literally just needs a re paint, no body work at all that I can tell.I took a magnet over every panel and couldnt find any bondo areas. It must have been garage kept for the last 40 years.

I was thinking of offering $10.000 and going from there.

I know keeping the drive train intact will keep the value of the car, as there are not that many 6 cylinder cars left out there.
There is not any documentation other than some tire and repair reciepts from the mid 80's and 90's.

Mechanically, it does not seem to have any problems and started and drove just fine.

Actually, there are NONE, and never were! It's a straight six!!!
Todd, if you ever do upgrade the engine/trans, save the original drivetrain because it will keep the value of the car higher than if you dumped it. Grab it quickly, a good clean unmolested car at that price is hard to come by no matter what engine it has.

I bought this car today...Ash Gold for $12,000. Is this a good deal?

My plan now is to keep it totally stock, including the color.

I also found out that it has the factory fold down rear seat.... is this a rare option?

Your 68 looks great. I bought my ragtop about 3years ago for 10k. It was not all original having a different trans, rearend, interior. Mine looked good but ran kind of crappy until I did some tinkering with the engine. Overall I'm happy with mine as you will be with yours. I look at my Camaro as a daily driver and do not ever intend to sell it. Bottom line, the value of your car is whatever you perceive it to be, not anyone else's. 13k sounds like a decent price. Modifying it in any way should only be done if it suits you. If you do intend to sell it later on, keep all of the original parts to reinstall; original sells for more money every day.

How would I convert the manualbrakes to power brakes on this car... They are scary after driving cars with power brakes all these years..would I just need a new master cylinder and vacuum booster? some one told me that would be all that is needed, but that I would need to locate a push rod for a stock power brakes car because the manual brakes car push rod is not long enough. Is this true?
