very interesting story behind that #1 vin ,i wonder what the value is of the car ,i was born 17 days after this car was built 50 years .in like 11 days ,must be a plan for a 50th Aniversary car soon, how they have changed over the years from metal to plastic an fiberglass ,hand built to machine built, to an engine you could see. to an engine you cant see with all the plastic around them now ,i would like a 67 302 car one day mabey ,had a friend had one but it had a 350 under the hood not original an wanted to much money

There was 602 302's built in 67. Many of them went to race teams. To find and true 67 Z28 is rare, To find one with its original 302 is a 90-120k car. You don't really own a car like that, your its care taker. If you screw it up your name will forever be attached to that vin number as the guy that screwed it up.

IMO a 302 clone from a Plain Jane body would be way more fun. You can take it out and beat the crap out of it. Drop a T56 in there with some 411's gears, its hard to beat a 6500 RPM small block for sound or fun, you could build the whole car for about what a show car paint job cost. Plastic dip it Satin black, some vintage cragers on there,,, See now I am drooling.

Or make your own 301, er, 302 - 283 block with a 327 crank.
Very common, and it turned out to be 301.58 CID.
Agree, nothing sounds better than a SBC at 6500 RPM rowing through the gears.
I had a '64 Impala hdtp, blew up the 327-300HP orig engine.
Salvage yard had a one year old '69 DZ for 150, it was a warranty scrap because it used a qt of oil in 60 miles in '69.
They said the rings were too hard to seat on the block.
I re-ringed it, new bearings, bought a third design off-road Z/28 camshaft, and install same into Impala with M21/3.36:1 gear.
Slow off the line, but once above 5K RPM, ***** to the wall.
Out ran many a BB's, all brands. Loved this car.

I read a great story, Ford asked Shelby to run their trans-am race team. He said he would look into it. Shelby knew what he could do with the ford 302. He ordered all the parts from a chevy dealer to build a chevy 302. He then built it like he would any race engine. Port/polished heads and intake, custom ground the valve. He then dyno'ed it and broke 500hp. He call Ford and said no thank you. Your 302 can't compete. A year and half later the 302 boss was born.
