1967 Camaro Convertible
1967 Convertible;
I recently bought a convertible. Is there suppose to be a rear speaker tray package for a convertible or NO? I am just wanting to make sure nobody cut out the rear speaker tray shelf in the car for a boom box etc ..
I am wondering if there is no speaker tray shelf in the rear where do folks mount their speakers in the rear of the car? Do speakers get installed into the rear qtr panels or something? Please let me know as my Top doesnt work too see where it actually "folds down into." thank you for the reply and help

no package shelf on Verts so top can go there
rear speakers from factory were in box on back of seat pointing backwards. pic I have won't upload
you could put speakers in the rear arm rest part of rear window panel but it would be small
Kick panels are an option along with two 4" speckers in dash

I just have a removable box that goes in the back seat. Now that the kids are grown no one rides back there. I also picked up a spare set of door cards for some 6" speakers in the doors. I have the good door cards wrapped in plastic on a shelf in my garage.
Thank you Gorn -- i never had a Convert.. before. The top doesnt work and all i have is a toggle switch hanging. The windows roll down crooked both fronts and rear qtr's so the door panels etc have to come off to fix the window regulators etc. I also need a top motor i think as it doesnt work and all i have is a toggle switch.. I bought the car for 30k because the top is new and the body is done etc .. i hope the top can go up and down. I dont want to try it manually as im liable to mess it up etc

If you can do the top manual that would mean the pistons are not holding hydraulic pressure. If the seals are blown out or the fluid has been removed then the top should be fine. Two people can open and close it without too much trouble. Go slow and easy the first time, if it feels like it really does not was to go stop. But there is not any mechanical timing or gears that can bid up. Just take it back from both sides evenly. If you disconnect the cylinders, then it moves pretty easily assuming you frame is in good shape.
Not sure how much you know about your existing system. How to fix this will depend on your plans for the car. If you plan on showing the and want it correct you may want to look for a local shop that can rebuild the cylinders and pump and a motor repair shop to rebuild the motor. Since these parts are not easily seen a lot of guy just buy new cylinders and motor/pumps. You can even find them in kits for around $500, for a while Amazon even carried them. All the 1st gens parts sight should have them. You will find that this is a very standard kit. They will look the same as the kits for the Mustangs, Oldsmobiles ect.. The only thing that really changes is the stroke length of the cylinders.

Just a FYI, I have been playing with these cars a long time. One thing I noticed is a lot of guys remove the center support so they can easily install dual exhaust. Then just leave it off. This is a mistake, these cars are very flexible. They need that center support. You can damage the car buy jacking it up in one corner if that support is missing,
When people ask me about racing my car I will often say "what my wet noodle?" These are cruisers When you go hard into a corner you are on 3 wheels and if you have a high torque motor you are going to twist it. Hotchkis make a system that will help with this. The part in the center is the replacment for the stock center support. It allows for dual exhaust and it is sold by itself. That is what I have on my car.

Even with the kit you are not as solid as a hard top.

Subframe connectors are a good idea on any Camaro in my book, I have them in my 2001 SS hardtop.

I wish my 67 was anywhere near as ridged as my 93 hard top. My 93 has koni shocks and SS sway bars and maybe it has a 1/8-1/4 inch flex if I jack it under a frame rail in the front. I bet on my 67 I could get one tire 4 inch's off the ground with the other 3 still touching. This is why GM never made a Vert Z28. The engineers said the stiffer suspension would just bend the car more around a corner. In fact they were worried that it could bend enough that it would twist the body.
None of the 1 gens where what I would call ridged. The 2nd gen where, at the time, considered upgrades but even those use to get roof tearing and windshield cracking with hard driving. IMO the 3rd gens where the first Camaro that could handle a corner well in its stock form. I still remember the first time I drove a 3rd gen after owning 2 second gens. It was no where near as fast as my 74 350/4 speed but man that thing could carve a turn.
