Hi there , I live in Australia and am the proud owner of an all original 1967 camaro. It's grenada Gold with gold interior and was part of the "camaro pacesetter sale" . ok , so . here goes ::
It is a 327 chev/powerglide , has the original 2 barrel rochester carby and here is my problem . It had been running fine until one day it had a cough and splutter then a huge backfire out of the exhaust. It actually bent and twisted the muffler . oh yeh it WAS running a single exhaust system , I've now fitted a twin system . It then ran fine for a while then it did the same thing . When it is driving along at 50 mileish it sought of dies , i put it in neutral and rev then it backfires and comes back running a bit rough . I had a friend follow me and he said it blew flames out the exhaust when backfiring . it then may run ok for a few days then it plays up again . So here is what I have done thus far : I've had the carby proffessionslly rebuilt TWICE !! and have been assured the float level/ needle and seat etc is fine . Ive fitted a new fuel pump , added a fuel regulator , changed the dizzy cap , points , condenser , plugs , leads , done timing , checked for vacuum leaks and still I have this intermittent problem . Does Any body have any other clues . ? Fuel sock ? Sticky valve / valves not seating , . Any feedback would be muchly appreciated .
thanks
