Default $4500 '69 Camaro

Well, I've been looking into getting one of these for awhile now, and this last week I've heard about one I might be able to consider buying.

It's at the same place I got my IROC-Z. s'full of Camaros and Firebird of every generation. While I was there on Tuesday looking to pick up a starter, I happened to ask if he had or had heard of anyone with a '69 Camaro I might be able to pick up.

Turns out he has one. Says it's got an active, local serial number. We looked at it. (it's this by the way) To my untrained eye, it's not looking terrible. The rockers are good, the firewall is pretty good, the roof is pretty good. Rear quarters need to be replaced and everything else isn't there, lol.

He's asking $4500 for it. (Currently $4275 US)

The three serial numbers I could find all matched, but the cowl tag is gone, so it can't ever be restored to factory spec. Which is fine with me, it just means I can build it into exactly what I want it to be without worrying about ruining the value of the car.

I did want a convertible, but I'm figuring a coupe with a black vinyl roof is more than livable, and might even look better in the colour I'd end up painting it. (Sunset Orange Metallic, btw~)

My dad and I will be going to have another look at it next Saturday, but what do you guys think? Worth it?

If you can pick up a 69 that cheap id do it. Rust is no problem all you need is a roof they repop parts cheap and good for these cars, goodmarks the best

I know that I don't know anything; that's why I posted this thread.

The guy IS known for having high prices, but this is also the cheapest car I can find. I figured anything is worth at least a look.

Is it really that bad? :/

There's hardly anything left of the car. The only parts that I see that are usable is the roof, the firewall, and the tail panel. The rest of the car is junk. It was even cut up and back-halved (custom made narrowed frame). Somebody was obviously trying to go with a pro-street build with this car.

He did specifically say someone was going to put a tube frame in it and drag race it.

I was having an idea. I have overheard him in the past saying he's a body man. While we were talking about this thing, he said I would be saving about $5000 over buying everything from GLA (Canadian extension of Dynacorn)

Obviously paying him to do the work would add to that, but if, as part of the deal, I got him to do all of the body work and we agreed on an amount that isn't a huge amount more than a repro body. Since I don't really want to do a lot of body repair, and I don't think my dad will either, it might be worthwhile to go that route.

On the other hand, I've been keeping an eye out; and right now there's only one other that is nearby enough to consider.

There were a couple others, but apparently they're gone now. So much for the crappy economy that's causing everyone to sell off their projects :/

Keep looking - you can find one that's much better to start with.

The numbers do not add up in my book. Dynacorn body is $13,500. That car is 4,500 Your going to need 3-4K in metal and about 300-400 hours worth of repair. If he quotes much less then that he is BS ing you.

Around me they are getting about 75 per hour for metal work like that. I will let you do the math but the Dynacorn is a better deal and you can get your rag top Even if they do a halfway job and do it in 200 hours it makes no sense. That car will most likely come a part in the dip tank LOL.

If this guy could restore that body good and solid for less the a Dynacorn he already would have.
