Default "NEWBIE" REALLY NEED HELP!

I currently have a Mustang and really want to get rid of it. I am looking at this 69 camaro for sale and he says the vin# is a 12437 which means its a V8 and its a "X44 Norwood car." What does that mean?? hopefully I can go check it out this weekend, what kind of things should i look for? this will be my first camaro so i need some help.

X44 is the base camaro made in norwood ohio. A lot of guys like to get those cars and make them COPO clones as some copo's started as the X44.

ALL 69's started those numbers with 12. The 3rd number is for engine; 3 is V6 and 4 is V8. (whats yours again?) 4th digit is style; 3 is coupe and 6 is convertible. 5th digit is usually a 7, it really means nothing. The 7th digit however, should be a number; 'N' for Norwood or 'L' for Van Nuys. There would be an actual stamping of 'X44' at the lower right corner of the cowl tag.

One of the most important spots are the rear subframe rails, Check to make sure they are solid on both sides front to back. The 1/4's and the inner wheel wells , the floor, trunk floor, where the front subframe connects to the body. Rocker pannels. And if it was a vinyl top, the roof. The doors at the bottom on the inside, The doors and fenders shouldn't be a big deal as new ones can be bolted on. but I would say most of all are the rear frame rails, stick your fingers in the drain holes to see if the rust it bad.

for not obviousrust areas, you want to look at rear framerails, lower front cowl corners (water tend to collect there), lower corners of both front and rear windows and the radiator support underneath the battery tray because that's where a body bushing goes. then look in all the normal places
