Default Water in Trunk?

Hi All. Looking for some help. I have a 2016 Camaro LS and the battery and fuses are in the trunk. For the second time in 10 months my battery has been drained due to the trunk filling up with water. I don't know if there is a leak somewhere causing the trunk to fill, or if somehow the trunk is accidentally left slightly ajar. Perhaps my kids were playing with my key and popped it? Anyway, it drains the battery and this last time my car smelled like something electric was burning. Anyone else ever had this issue with the trunk being susceptible to water? Is there a plug in the trunk that could be used as a drain, and/or, could I drill a hole through the trunk to make a drain? Thanks in advance.
