With GM putting the known project of the 7th gen on hold it would make sense GM has pulled development "underground" like the early mid engine Corvettes. I would love to see GM engineers take on Tesla. GM owned electric car tech back in the 90's at some point some GM executive decided there is no market for electric cars ever and shut it down. This decision made tesla possible.
