I’m experiencing a problem with my left side door heated rearview mirror. The mirror is starting to black out, especially around the edges of where the heated thing is, and it’s progressively obstructing my view. It’s becoming quite concerning, and I’m wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue. I also attached images of the mirror below this text.
My main questions are:

1. Is it just the mirror itself that’s causing this problem?
2. Can I replace just the mirror, or do I need to replace the whole mirror assembly?
3. Is this something I can handle on my own, or would I need a professional for the replacement?
4. If I can do it myself, where can I find steps or a guide to help with the process?

I went to a mechanic, and they quoted me around $700 with labor, which feels like a lot. Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
