Default V6 Automatic vs Stick questions

I am trying to decide what to order. I have never driven a stick before and am not sure how the manual performs in comparison to the automatic. Some of my main questions are how solid is the manual transmission and what kind of gas mileage does the manual get vs the automatic? Is this a new transmission designed for the camaro or is it out of another GM car?

My main fear is dropping the transmission a few weeks out from receiving my car.

Thanks for the help.

Wink Just my humble opinion.

Just my humble opinion.
Don't go with a stick.

You can have just as much fun in an automatic -if that's what your used to. And the automatic CAN be controlled in a way similar to the stick- by using the tap-shift. It's perfect for us, because the wife likes the automatic- I like the control of being able to wind it out to WOT! and have it shift and spin the tires!

Every body is different, so go with your heart!

By the way, don't worry! You're warranty will cover a dropped tranny.

Go with what you are used too.

A stick gives you great control while downshifting and shooting around turns. I don't believe a tap shift gives you the same amount of control unless you are using an exotic shifter as in the Ferrari or Porsche.

With a V8 you can also maintain that great exhaust note while cruising but it won't matter with a V6.

I too have never driven a stick, but in order to have that little extra bit of hp and the true feel of the muscle car, i went with manual, i'll have to learn before it gets here though, or else someone else will be driving MY baby off the lot. . .and that can't happen haha

haha yeah i too went with the stick...i learned a few years ago on a corvette so i know how to drive a stick but i've never had my own car that was a stick (and granted i'm a little rusty right now)...but for what i was looking for the stick was the buy or no-buy factor for me...

Buy a beater and destroy a few clutches until She comes. You wouldn't want to be hurting something so beautiful now would you?
