Default SS or 5.0...to be or not to be?

Hi, I am in the market to buy a new car.....either a SS or 5.0.....not sure at this point. I have already completed my research on the 5.0...good car to buy and plenty of aftermarket parts. I spoke to a lot of the members on the 5.0 forum and as you would expect nothing but good reviews. 2 cars ago I had a z-28 6-speed and loved it.....after that I bought and still have a 08 GT premium...good car and lots of fun, but time for a new car. I've been drooling over a SS since it came out and that was going to be my next choice, but then the 5.0 came out and it's now difficult to decide.

I went to the Chevy web page and built my dream 2SS in Hugger Orange with the black hood and hockey stick stripe......I could already imagine droppin it 2 inches and adding 20" black rear rims & 19" black front rims......and the usual long tube headers, limo tint, 4.10 gear, tune and so.....on. Sounds awesome!

I know I would be happy with either car....although I haven't driven either (yet). The folks that own a SS what do you think? Any complaints or nothing but smiles? How is the stereo? doesn't look like it would be easy to install an aftermarket unit? The old school style gauges on the counsel look cool and the seats look great. I have a feeling a decision will end up being personal driving preference...I'll have to drive them both soon......in the mean time ANY COMMENTS OR ADVICE WILL BE APPRECIATED? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

I hate to say this but the new 5.0 looks more promising than the Camaro.

And in every way possible. Fuel economy, straight line performance, handling, braking, looks, and cabin room. Price ain't too bad either....

The 5.0 can also come with brembos. The 5.0, like sprssbalt said, is faster than the camaro ss due to the weight difference. It's all personal preference between the two, whether you want the camaro with "retro" styling or a mustang with more of a retro styling. The 5.0 is a totally different animal than the 2008 you have now, if you fi the 5.0 at 8 psi you're making about 670 rwhp which can get into the low 10s high 9s, or you can do the same to the camaro, but won't be as fast due to weight disadvantage. Not sure what year your z28 was, but people with the ls1 camaro have beaten the new camaro ss

Thanks for the feedback......the 5..0 weighs 3604lbs vs 3860 for the SS....256lbs is significant. I didn't think about the weight factor.....check mark against the camaro. The Brembo brakes on the 5.0 (front only) are $1680....including rims and the SS has standard Brembo brake....no big deal. I really like the looks and styling of the SS....it gives me a more of wow factor than the 5.0. I'm only looking to get the car into the high 11s.....I have to figure out the cost to get there in a SS vs 5.0....that may make a difference. When driving on the street there is not much to challenge you when you have an 11 sec car....not that I would race on the street and on the track 11 sec cars are always fun.....just how much $$ to get there? Anything faster than 11 sec on the street....not including NOS are somewhat radical and need constant attention.

As far as the 08 GT....your right 4.6 3V not much there compared to a 5.0....Bone stock the best I could run was a 13.7 at 100mph....I wasn't disappointed. The new 5.0 and SS are a very low 13 or high 12 sec bone stock from what I read....not bad.

The Z28 I had was a 1996 LT1....fun car....the engine compartment sucked to say it mildly. It would be dreadful to work on until I got accustomed to the tight BS.

Comes with an LSA out of the Cadillac CTS-V. 556 hp supercharged 6.2.

And of course, it's the same engine as the Corvette ZR1 comes with, so you could in theory fit it with the bigger supercharger from the LS9 and have 648 hp that way.

Even I will admit that Ford stepped it up for 2011, but they had to. So the Camaro was a win for Chevy and Ford fans. I am guessing that if the 2010 Camaro never came to be the Mustang would still be sporting those weak engines, hell I smoked a GT in my old 4G Eclipse GT.

I have my own reasons for going with the Camaro, and to me I still have nothing but smiles. Every power adder can go on any vehicle and then you get into the "well if I did this and that fights".

And yes Camaros are all over the place now, but when I see another one it still looks bad *** to me. When I see a Mustang I think, huh another Mustang.
