Default Looking at a 2015 LS

Hi,

Having always loved Camaros since they first came out, especially the '69 Z/28 w/the 302 cu. in. engine and 4 speed m/t, I lost interest in them as Chevy degraded them over the years, until they came out w/the 5th generation.

Also back then, I had bought a new 1978 Chevy Pickup at the time, which was a total lemon and a piece of junk, after which I swore I'd never buy another Chevy again, which I haven't up to this point.

Not too long ago, someone came up and parked next to me at a lot in a totally restored/an or original '69 Z/28. It looked brand spanking new. Boy was that thing absolutely beautiful. I didn't get a chance to talk to them about whether it was a restored or a well kept original. It was Maroon Red w/a black interior.

Anyway, after all these years, I'm looking at a low mileage 2015 Camaro LS, V6, w/a 6 Speed M/T, w/standard 17" Aluminum wheels. Outside of that, it doesn't appear to have any options that I can tell. I'd love to get a V8 SS, w/a 6 Speed M/T, but can't find one in my price range, especially w/any decent mileage, or a manual transmission, so I have to make do w/the V6.

I thought about getting a new RS model last year, w/the V6 and the LE1 Track package, but ended up buying a new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited instead. It was more practical at the time, since I love going off-road up into the mountains, which of course, an RS could never do.

Anyway, w/that said, does this 2015 have the very latest V6 engine model? Any issues w/it, such as the chain drive stretching or losing an engine bearing, etc.?

The 2015 model year appears to have pretty good ratings.

Can any performance be gotten out of the engine?

Like Ford for their Mustangs, does Chevy have a Performance Software Kit available for their V6?.

What kind of a rear gear ratio do they come standard with, and what's offered after market or through Chevy? Is a Limited Slip Kit available as well?

How about a good Cat-Back exhaust, more towards performance rather than sound? Headers and a free flowing catalytic.

Is that optional Chevy Performance Exhaust Package available for it? It was optional for the 2015 RS model at the time w/that engine.

I certainly have got to replace the stock wheels and tires, and put something like a Chevy 20" on, which will most likely require a gearing change.

Thanks!

I have a 2012 2LT RS, can't answer all of your questions, but here's what I think I know:

1/ more power is more power, but with the M6 V6 I have plenty for my skill-level;
2/ apparently there was a timing chain problem but not for my year or later;
3/ I'm essentially certain that I have a limited-slip differential (stock);
4/ I have seen a V6 without the RS pkg. at car shows which every year has new stuff on it, performance enhancements of unbelievable sorts (e.g. scissor doors, plus power, suspension, etc.), so yes, there are definitely aftermarket products to get more out of this car;
5/ the next gen came out in 2016 (and from what I've read was a significant improvement), which has got to mean that a 2015 has the most up-to-date engine for that generation;
6/ I do love how my car drives - bouncy on rough roads but overall as smooth as silk, very direct steering, very planted, sticks like glue, frightened my instructor on a track-day, but the car held the line; it was a lot of work to unstick it on a wet skid-pad.

Also, yes not an off-roader, but ...
