Default RE: How much will the Camaro cost?

Here is an Article that gives a hint at the engine and cost of the camaro

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=124876

Think down the road, and the G8 GT should run with the Challenger SRT8, which shares its drivetrain and platform with the Super Bee SRT8. And the Camaro SS, which is based on the G8's underpinnings, should have no problem keeping up with the Challenger.

If GM goes with the L76 365 -375 hp option the cost of the Camaro will most likely be jsut a couple of thousand over the G8 since they share common roots and components.
Given that the G8 GT starts around 30K and tops out at 34K this puts the Camaro in the
32K - 36K range depending on options.

If they go with the More Expensive LS3 at 425 HP you will see the starting price jump up to 34K and top out around 38K

There is talk that there will be a top end special Camaro this may be using the LS3 so
this leaves us with the L76 for the base V8. this one will be priced a couple on thousand more than the Mustang GT because of the added cost of the IRS and quality of the Interior.

That Being said, the rummord 2010 Mustang will be offered with a IRS, better interior and Larger engine with More HP, the two offerings out there being tossed around, a 5.4L 3 or 4 Valve motor
in the 350 - 390 hp range. The 5.4L with Active Fuel Managment like the Camaro will have, this is to get better gas mileage when the engine is a at cruise somthing the current 4.6L 3V does not have. this engine will up the Mustang Price by about $1800.00 and IRS will add another $2000.00
tthe 2010 Mustang will base price right at 30K. The Mustang will never meet the interior quality that GM is putting into the Camaro because Chevy will be marketing the Camaro to our friends overseas and Europians love a good smooth ride, great handeling and fine interior. the mustang was never made to even meet euro standards the Camaro will be.

While there has been speculation for months on many forums that the L76 might be thebase V-8 in the Camaro, some recent commentshave noted that the L76 is at this time a Holden only engine that is not used in any cars manufactured in North America. And the LS3 which Holden has not had will now be going to them for the G8 GXP and likely other uses.Current speculation is that the L76 will not go in any NA produced vehicle.

Maybe the IRS will be missing on the base model for cost reasons? I don't think they should, but the could make it an option on the base model...

Actually the Pontiac G8 GT has the L76 in it right now. I test drove one over the weekend in Manassas, Va.
Nice Car.
Go to Pontiac.com and you can built one right now... The L76 is just a Modernized LS2 It's Been Given DOD and a bit detuned

@libertyforall1776
That would be very expensive on the line to offer two rear ends, and just think about the body mods that would be needed
to house an option for both a live axle and IRS

I'm aware that the G8 GT has the L76 in it, it is built in Australia by Holden. The L76 has not been in any car built in North America and the G8 GXP will have the LS3.

Not Entirely True... It is used right now in Trucks and SUVs This is from GMs Web site.. and these are North American Made Vehicles
So why not use it in the Camaro, it has all the right components. The LS3 is slated for the Corvette so you will not see the LS3 for a couple of years in the Base V8 Camaro. The Logical choice is the L76, Cost effective and has the power with fuel saving options.

Plus the L76 has displacement on demand the LS3 Does Not.. and it already has been stated that the Camaro will have displacement on demand technology.

VORTEC 6.0L GEN IV V8

VORTEC MAX 6.0L V8 (L76)
Chevrolet Avalanche Hydra-Matic 4L70 (M70)
Chevrolet Silverado Hydra-Matic 4L70 (M70)
Chevrolet Suburban Hydra-Matic 4L70 (M70)
GMC Sierra Hydra-Matic 4L70 (M70)
GMC Yukon XL Hydra-Matic 4L70 (M70)
GMC Yukon XL Hydra-Matic 4L80 (MT1)
Chevrolet Silverado HD Hydra-matic 6L90 (MYD)
GMC Sierra HD Hydra-matic 6L90 (MYD)

Why are so many people on one hand crying about the price of the Camaro and on the other hand complaining about using the L76 lower cost and HP engine. you can't have your cake and eat it too. The LS3 will put the Base V8 out of price Reach for alot of Buyers....

NEW YORK -- General Motors is considering a four-cylinder engine for the new Chevrolet Camaro as a response to rising fuel prices.

Speaking on the sidelines of the New York auto show, GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said the drivetrain under consideration for the Camaro is the same high-performance one used in the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky roadsters. It's a 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder rated at 260 hp. Lutz said that if fuel prices continue to climb, the four-cylinder Camaro could see production.

GM has said it plans V-8 and V-6 versions of the Camaro but otherwise has been secretive. Lutz confirmed to Automotive News that the V-6 version of the Camaro will be powered by the same high-tech V-6 used in the Cadillac CTS. It's a direct-injected, 3.6-liter four-cam V-6. In the CTS, the engine is rated at 304 hp.

Lutz said GM has dropped plans to offer a low-priced, entry-level Camaro with one of GM's low-tech V-6s. GM will position both the V-6 and V-8 versions of the Camaro as premium cars compared to the Camaro's chief rival, the Ford Mustang.

Lutz would not talk specifically about the Camaro's pricing. The car is scheduled to go on sale next February as a 2009 model, but Lutz did say GM views the Camaro as better equipped than the Mustang, and the price will be higher.

" We are going to be above Mustang," Lutz said. " We have a very sophisticated suspension system and, frankly, a much nicer interior. We are not going to try and match the Mustang on price. We are going to be premium-priced compared to the Mustang."

As I said, the L76 has not been in any car built in NA, you have a nice list of trucks/SUVs with the L76. I'm not complaining about anything, simply pointing out what the current speculation is.

True, I am pointing out the the LS3 is too expensive too use in the Camaro to keep is cost effective. the L76 makes a better choice because it's already used in down under cars and NA Trucks. It's already a proven platform for better gas mileage and performance V8. To tell you the truth I would prefer the L76 over any other Gen IV engine.
because of the torque and fuel economy.

Thanks for that link.
I still think that big squarish plastic framing looks silly around the gauges!
