how do i know if a new ss has a l99 or a ls3

okay this is new to me. im just finding out today that the new ss has a l99 engine? i thought they all had the ls3? I would like to buy one some day but how do i know which one is which? wtf? which ones faster?

L99 = Automatic 6L80

LS3 = 6 speed

Pretty much the same engine

L99 has active fuel management (cylinder deactivation)
