Lightbulb The Apple iRod, A 2010 Chevy Camaro CONCEPT

Check this out -- very cool HUD & dash ideas -- GM really needs to team up with Apple for this sort of thing -- Ford has Sync, GM could have something WAY better!

Anything that comes up directly in front of the driver's view is a bad idea. No matter how translucent you make that display, it WILL cause collisions.

Exclamation

Well, a Camaro HUD option *is* planned by GM for later this model year...

"So wait a minute, you rear-ended the guy who was sitting at the light at 35mph, knocking him into traffic and causing a 15-vehicle collision, without even slowing down? How the hell did you do that?"
"Oh, I didn't see him."
"You didn't see him? What the hell were you doing?"
"Well, I was checking my email in my windshield."
"...You're going to prison."

Honestly. I miss when cars were just for driving.

LOL, who said email had to be on the HUD?! Get real! The point is more that Apple could do a stellar job at creating an in-car computer interface compared to the Ford's Stync. ;-)

Just display it on a decent sized NAV screen display that would be where the radio is today...

I still think it's a dumb and dangerous option

My computer sits at home and that's where it belongs. Anything that could be a distraction while you're driving, will be a distraction. Not necessarily for you or for me because we know better (right? ), but someone, somewhere will have the bright idea that yes, they can check their email while they're driving. Yes, they can browse wikipedia while they're driving. Yes, it is perfectly ok to watch Top Gear on an HUD in your windshield while you're driving.

No. It's stupid, it's dangerous, and it can and will get someone killed if it's made possible.

Good drivers just drive. Bad drivers must be made to.

Shoot...it's bad enough when the sun reflects off my dashboard and it shines onto my windscreen.

iTunes integration, sure (I have the same thing pretty much in my car with my iPod) but web browsing on your windshield? Not something you want to do while driving. But hey while you're parked it'd be pretty nice. Then again my iPod already has that too, you need a wi-fi connection though.
