Default LIFTER- Clicking- any help appreciated

I have a clicking in my engine and a slight misfire that usually happens when the car is stopped but in drive. I replaced the valve purge solenoid which was also clicking. I have never dealt with a bad lifter. I tried a little engine treatment but it did not work in 300 miles so I changed the oil. What steps can I take to determine if its a lifter and is there anything tht I can do besides taking to to a mechanic?

Could also be a broken valve spring, what motor and how many miles on it?
I've found bad lifters or broken springs by pulling the valve covers, if you can hear what side it's on maybe just pull one cover.
Get a nice clean piece of wood or a wood hammer handle and with the engine idling look for any valve that doesn't look like it's moving it's full cycle.
If nothing visual is obvious with your wood put a little pressure on each rocker at the top of the valve and top of pushrod and look/listen carefully for a change.

Its a 3.6 v6. It has only 50,000 miles. I thought it was a collapsed lifter. Sounds like its the drivers side. I am using one quart of ATF in the oil in the event its a collpased lifter to free it. I just bought this car and have never had to deal with anything like this so I am uncharted waters. Is removing the valve cover easy? Am I in danger of messing up the timimg when doing it?

Well I have not worked on a 3.6 so maybe a youtube will help you.
As for ATF for the lifter that's probably a waste of time if it's collapsed and I'd stop running it until it can be repaired to prevent cam damage etc. if it hasn't already happened.
Edit: I looked that engine up and it's not a lifter/pushrod OHV engine like the LS V8 it's a double overhead cam engine so you can rule out lifters completely.

Only 50k miles on it ? Hmmm might be time to have a pro give a listen and check for codes.

Default Question

So if anybody is reading this, the car has a slight misfire that happens at stops intermittently. No dash lights and I changed the plugs. Was happening before the change. I added one quart of tran fluid to replace one quart of oil during the oil change. I ran it for not very long. But it seemed to snooth out the hiccup or burp like misfire. I was relucatant to leave the ATF i the crankcase too long wven though many say its fine. But it did seem to help. Any idea what this might be? The engine is 3.5 with 50k.
