I was under my 2011 SS today for the first time. I noticed in front of each muffler there was what looked like a heat exchanger. Why are they there and can they be taken off with an exhaust change?

 

They are resonators and can be removed.They are there to make the exhaust quieter. I have a 2011 SS/RS with Borla mufflers and I am going to remove them so it will be a little louder. Do you have any rust on the drain holes at the bottom of doors?
