I have a 68 camaro with a goodwrench 350 that I drive daily. It seems to be a decent block with 4 bolt mains, and i just added hei, but that's about the only thing going for it. I used a software dyno and came up with about 260hp at the flywheel with the parts I have now. I would really like these numbers to be around 350 when i am done. when i added a small tube header and the 906 or 062 vortec heads it gave me about what I am looking for, well and a little more cam but i will get that later. I am interested in taking this route mainly because I found some 906 heads for 88 dollars for the set. I know I will have to put a little money into them for roller and some valves and springs. I heard that to use vortec heads i will also need to change to a vortec intake. my question is,

1) is this a good route to follow for the outcome i am looking for

2) are their any other changes that i will need to make to use vortec heads besides the intake, if so what are they

i don't know too much about vortec heads but you will want to get good flow numbers out of them. if you have work to do on them have the machine shop put 2.02/1.60 valves on them, as you stated get a new cam with new lifters (unless they are hydraulic roller then you can reuse them), and i would strongly recommend a set of long tube headers. tht should put you close to where you want to be.. hope this helps.

Hey, i have a 75 camaro and when i bought it it had stock 350 with a two barrel carburetor. I burnt up the motor soon after buying it (radiator leak) and rebuilt it. I added a new performance four barrel intake, a performance series four barrel carburetor, a carnae cam with 272 duration, and about 490 lift, aftermarket lifters, vortec heads out of a newer 350, long tube headers and a few other tideous things and so far i am happy with how it has in creased the performance and sound, so it is a good way to go and yes the horsepower is close to 350

You will have to change or modify your intake to fit Vortec heads.......don't forget all the bracketry?

There are no hole for alt or power streering. Also spend the money and have them reworked and matched to the intake.

NO holes for alt or power stearing? That is really helpfull. Do you know if I would be able to have a machinist drill the holes for an original look or would I just have to go to the belt system used on the doner vehicle?
