Default 2nd Gen fender/body interchangability

I am restoring a 74 camaro and it will need some new sheet metal including quarters due to rust damage. Not only patched, but the inner panel of the quarters will need redone, so Im looking for the whole part to patch in.

Question for members: what quarters, fenders, doorskins, ect. are interchangable on the 2nd generation cars? This may or may not include 74-77 camaros? firebirds? Are these interchangable parts direct bolt on or need modification?

thanks guys

1970 to 1977 had the same fender. The doors were interchangable between 1970 and 81. Chevy did change the door handle size at some point but I have not seen any indication of any change in door skins based on the aftermarket parts. The quarterpanel skins are the same from 74-81. The replacement skins do not go up to the rear window. If they did the 74 panel would be unique as it does not have a wrap around windows. 70-81 Firebirds had different fenders, doors and quarters and do not interchange with the Camaro. The Firebird's body length line/crease was not as sharp as the Camaro's and the panels had a gradual slope on the flat areas.

One correction. The front fenders are NOT the same from 70-77. The front fenders from 70-73 are different than later 2nd gens. Also, front fenders from Firebirds during this time frame are not the same as Camaros. Same goes for rear 1/4 panels from this era.

To 1971BB427, in what way are the 1970-73 fenders different from 74-77?

Also I did mention that fenders, doors and quarter panels would not interchange between the Firebird and the Camaro.

My apologies Jim! I was wrong on this one. I checked my material list for the fenders on my 1971, and it does indeed list them as 1970-77 . I had looked at my friend's 1977 and thought the fender extension attached in different holes than mine. Sorry.

No problem. We all make mistakes. I recently misidentified a striped down second gen Camaro on a different website. I am shamed for life. Or at least until I identify the next one correctly.

you guys are great. thanks a lot.
I found a rus free parts car here in town and it is a 79. Would the 79 fenders bolt on the 74? (aside from the rear window section). I am looking to bolt on front fenders. The inside fo the fenders are beat up with rust too, so I am lookingto replace the whole sections and not just patches.
these questions: Would this 79 car be able to donate front fenders?
Would I be able to have a body shop cut and patch in the lower portions of the rear fenders of that 79?

The 1979 front fenders would not work on a 74 Camaro, unless you used the entire 1979 front. The 1979 rear fenders would be the same as your 74 Camaro except for around the rear window. The inner fenders were the same for all second gen Camaros, mounting holes for other items excepted.
