Well As Some Of Ya'll Know Me And My 85 Just Got Into Drag Racing. First Time Was A Flop. Had A Bad Shake At About 80 Changed Everything I Could Think Of. In The End It Turned Out To Be A Gallon Of Water In One Of The Tires. Also, My Wires Got On The Headers And Shorted Out . Roasted Them All. Well I Rewired It, Lost About 100 Pounds Of Weight, Bought New Tires And Some Drag Struts And Went Again Lastnight. When I Got Into This I Focused On My Motor And It Is Sweet. I Had No Idea How Much Attention And Money I Should Have Put Into The Body. The Car Has A Severe Problem Hooking Up. My Fastest Time Lastnight Was A 15.07 At 94.66 MPH. Now Mind You That Is With Stock Rearend 3.42 Gears, Street Tires, And Unable To Get The Shifter Down In First. As Soon As I Would Leave The Line The Tranny Would Shift Into Second. That In Itself Really Messed My Times Up. Not To Mention The Ungodly Spinning It Does. Guess Now I'm In The Market For A Posi-Rearend Or A Spool And Some Slicks. I Hate Pushing My Motor So Hard And It Looking Like A Six Cylinder. If It Was A Roasting Your Tires Contest It Would Win Everytime. Nevertheless I Ran It Three Times At a 15.07 @ 94.66, 15.88 @ 91.26 , and a 15.65 @ 93.28. The Second Run I Threw The Belt And Temp Got Over 300. Scared The Crap Out Of Me Though I Had Burn It Up For Sure. Went And Got A New Belt And Made The Third Time. Was Gonna Run It Again But, As I Was Idling Up To Stage It Started Missing Real Bad. I Check For Burned Wires And Such. The Only Thing I Found Was My Coil Was Hot Enough To Fry And Egg On And The Distributor Wires Was Very Hot And Soft. I'm Running An Accel 48,000 + Coil And Someone Already Told Me It Was Gonna Cause Me Problems So I Hope Thats It And Not The Fact That I Got It So Hot That One Run. Gonna Do Some Checking After The Rain Stops. Oh Yea Forgot To Mention The The Brakes. I Noticed When I Was Coming Off The Line The Brakes Would Hold For A Half A Second After I Would Nail It. By The End Of The Night I Only Had Brakes On One Wheel. Trying To Slow Down From A 100 MPH With One Wheel Breaking Is Mother. Guess I Have A Messed Up Caliper. Tho All Things Considered I Had The Time Of My Life. Tracks Gonna Be Closed Next Weekend So That Will Give Me Time To Try And Get It All Back Together. One Thing I Can Tell You ... If Your Going Through A Mid-Life Crisis ... Do It With Style ... Go Drag Racing. For Your Viewing Pleasure Here's One Of The Runs.Sick http://www.vidiLife.com/index.cfm?f=media.play&vchrMediaProgramIDCryp=F28B8CA2-1C80-4311-B1AC-C

I see you made some improvements since your first outing. The mid 90s trap speed indicates you are making some decent power, and once you get the bite off the line your ET should be down in the mid to low 14s. I have had problems with several Accel coils going bad on my LT1, so I really don't trust them anymore.

Yeppers ... I'm Convinced It Was The Coil. After It Cooled Off It Ran Fine. Ordered Another Coil. Also Since I've Finally Seen The Light With Ported Vacuum On The Advance I Believe Thats Gonna Help Me A Smidgeon As Well. I'm Gonna Give That A Try Before I Completely Do away With The Advance. Also I Replaced That 6.5 Power Valve With A 3.5 ... It Doesn't Seem To Be Loading Up Anymore. Got All The Air Out Of My Calipers Too. The Brakes Should Respond Alot Better. Getting Ready For This Weekend. I'm Hoping For A Low 14 But I'll Be Happy If I Brake Last Weeks Times. I'm Probably Just Farting In The Wind But, I Bought A TRX1 Tunnel Ram. Gonna Try And Pickup A 650 Double Pumper To Go With It. Not Sure It Will Help But I Love The Look Of A Tunnel Ram. Sick

if you can keep the rpm's high that tunnel ram will do you wonders. and by keeping the rpm's high i mean above 4000, which shouldnt be a problem for a 305. just watch your temp 300 is a very scary number. That 650 carb will also do you some wonders. thats plenty of breathing room for a 305. i would of personally went with a high rise single plane rather then a tunnel ram, but your right tunnel rams look awsome.

I really think MSD coils are over rated. I have thier wires on my SRT, but the coils have nothing but bad reviews.

It's Weird Though, If He Had The Caps On It Would Read Like THIS, Not What He Writes Like. It's Annoying Though, I Agree!!!

There, now he at least has the caps lock on or off. It's a good start.
And Bones is right, cutting 3/4's of a second off your time is a job well done. Learn how to take a compliment.
It's not like he said "Hey, congrats on cutting your time, now you can hang with stock Civics."

Ok, I will actually help Sick here. Your carb is to big for your application, unless your 305 is highly modded. I had a 650 on a 340 (an enigne actually built for racing) and it was more than enough, on a 305 it's probably overkill. And the tunnel ram is harming you, again, overkill for your application.
There, I added something valueable to the conversation. Happy??

More help. From your symptoms I would get an MSD coil and wires (I think just thier SRT coils are ****, heard good stuff about their other products) and gears. Sounds like the biggest bang for your buck.

Keep the tunnel ram since I saw your engine build online and it is built. One hell of an engine. Plus the carb is fine on there.
Good luck

I haven't seen his engine build, I was just going on the fact that people never choose to really build up 305's, they usually pick 350's. If it's a built 305, the carb may be fine, but I still think the tunnel ram is overkill.

just for the sake of being civil ... the only thing stock is the heads. its a 305 bored .060, 305HO flat top pistons, .480 lift 304 duration speed pro cam, msd pro-billet distributor, full length headers, holley 600 CFM VS. i replaced the weiand dual plane with the TR1-x tunnel ram and gained a second so i know that wasn't a bad move. i thought i was running 3:73 gears. had never pulled the pan and actually looked. took a peek last week and found 3:23. explains alot about my times. found a set of 4.11 and put them in today. got a mini spool coming in the mail. since the last time i ran it i've lost a couple hundred pounds, done away with all the belts and pulleys, and got the 4:11 and the locker. would like to see it turn a low twelve before i put slicks and nos on it. been ordering some nos parts off ebay. going to build a wet nos system for it. like the rearend build it will be a first. i don't know which gives me more pleasure. building it or putting my foot through the carb. sick

Remember Sick, only babies need the bottle. Go with an N/A car, and all excuses are out the window, lol!! (otherwise you will always hear, even if you don't spray, that you did, and without it you wouldn't have won, yadda, yadda, yadda. I get it all the time about my SRT, "if it wasn't for the turbo you wouldn't have beat me". Umm, if it wasn't for the turbo it would be a Neon, lol!)
Good job on knocking down those times, keep at it!! Your car would run circles aroun my Mustang more than likely. (the Mustang has the looks though, you have to admit that!)
And yeah, the 340 I had the 650 on was pretty stock. What a great little motor huh??

The long intake runners is just what your engine needs to boost the low end torque. Now you need to get it to the ground.
