You guys are always stomping those silly ricers. Nothing wrong with putting them in place, of course. But, how do YOU disrespect them?
Neon SRT-4- "Wow! You have a blow off valve, so you must be fast!" "Hey! Watch this!" The light turns green, and I use my AWD advantage in my STi to jump 3 cars on it across the intersection. Then, I say, "Hey! Did you see that?" Also, say to the SRT ricer, "I bet you can't do this!" Then power my rear windows down in the STi. SRTs have roll-down rear windows, even in the "power window" models.
Honda Civic- I just roll up my window on them. If he's a real tool, I'll ask him what he's done to it to run 16s.
Honda Accord- Need I say more?
Any of the others just get a nice rev in return, and a "thumbs down" if the driver's a tool.
Ok, don't get me wrong. I don't go around insulting everyone that drives a ricer, but if the driver's a total ass, he deserves it. There are people out there that drive imports that like cars as much as anyone else. I'm talking about the hat-facing-backward 50 Cents-listening assbags running around with chips on their shoulder.

Their used to be this onewhite kid who would drive around on the weekends. He had a honda civic I think, and he had cut the springs under the car to make it lower. Apparently he didn't cut them good enough and when he went by he would bounce up and down. Used to call the guy hoppey. He had the typical ricer attitude, he'd slouch in his seat, and hang his head toward the middle of the car, with one hand on his steering wheel. The cap tipped upwards, playing his tight rap.

Aren't those guys funny? LOL! I mean, a lot of poeple think that just because someone drives an import, they're automatically a ricer, but in reality, a lot of people that drive imports don't think any more highly of them than the rest of the automotive enthusiasts.
I drive an 05 STi as well as my Camaro, and I'm the furthest from a ricer as you can possibly get. I'm not a fan of companies. I'm a fan of cars.

"I'm a fan of cars."
Me too. I respect both the Evo and the STI quite a bit. They are fast and with the 4-wheel drive, just incredible backroad and rally cars. Both can do the 1/4 in the low mid 13s stock, although one has to realize that they do this in part by jumping off the oline quickly due to the 4-wheel drive: at 13.3 second STI will not pull from 75 on up like a 13.3 second Camaro. But regardless I think they are great cars. They are fairly easy to modify although I understand that beyond taking about a second off the quarter (costs about $4K), they become relatively expensive to modify further. And because of that 4-wheel drive, they can control that power well.
Really good cars.
As to Neons, I'm not as big a fan, particularly because they are dangerous to race against with all that FWD torque steer: they jump sideways (into your lane!!!) when they shift gears or hit the NOS (I know, one came right into my lane once, but fortunately I was far enough ahead that we didn't touch). Out on the street, cruising, no other car is as worrisome to me as a Neon driven by some
aggressive kid scratching for a race and showing off, the cars are hard enough to for an experienced, cool-headed driver to control.
Factory performance parts and aftermarket can add gobs of power to them, for not a whole lot of money (I've seen one dyno over 380 FWHP, and it did 11.4 in the quarter mile). But in my book more than about 275 HP in them is just way more than the chassis and drive train can control well. That mnuch power makes it a terribly unbalanced car (its not that balanced with what it has stock, for that matter) and I don't respect that in any car.
I think it was Motor Trend or maybe Car and Driver that recently commmented after driving a SRT with only the stage II factory boost upgrade: "This SRT sort of goes where it wants to go."

No torque steer? Well, I guess the guy running against us just wanted to jump sideways into our lane for fun, eh? They banned him from the track after our race. He nearly hit the Camaro: I guess SRT's shift out of 1st at quite a low speed (in the 20s? I don't think we had even made it to the 60 foot mark yet) and our car was barely in front of him enough, when he got back on the power in 2nd, his car just jumped sideways and his front bump just barely missed the rear of the Camaro. I think that was torque steer: I don't think anyone is that bad of a driver or that stupid.
This isn't funny and there is no misinformation here. There was a lot of torque steer in a stock one I drove, about as much as I've ever experienced in any FWD car, and the car mags all commented how the modded SRTs have it in spades, gquoting the one factory rep as "They sort of go where they want to go."

it was probably a 03 srt-4, they did not come with an lsd. i have raced mine at mo-kan dragway more than 100 times and i have never had any torque steer. as a matter of fact on my way home this morning from work, i stopped on a back road and took off wot without my hands on the steering wheel and it stayed straight. mine is a 04. dodge realized they made a mistake with the 03 not having an lsd so 04's and 05's come with it. i am not trying to start an argument or anything , i was just bored at work so i went to a few forums to see what ppl were saying about srt-4's. by the way i have been beat by a few camaro's and i have beat a few. the other day i raced an ss and was hanging with him until about 100 then he just left me behind , i was like what the ? i am assuming he had n2o. i have had the same experience at the track. and they did have n2o.

What is you best 1/4 time? I don't know what year the Neon I was running against was, but maybe he had just modded it to too much power and that contributed to the torque steet. Sounds like you are in the high to mid 13s from what you said your car does against SSs. This guy claimed he could do in the high 10s. He didn't launch like that, more like mid 12s, but that's still fast. I think he was pushing his engine too much though, heard he blew the head open about a month later. Haven't heard if and how he re-built.
Anyway, SRTs are fun cars - nothing wrong with them. Hang in there and hope you have fun with it. Just be careful adding more boost, its so easy to just blow the whole motor.

i am mildly modded i have stage 1 pcm, k and n cai, mpx under drive pulley, turbo xs boost controller, turbo xs blow off valve, agp waste gate actuator, mopar short throw shifter w/ booger bushings, 3 " down pipe (no cat), prothane motor mounts, ngk iridium plugs. my best time is 13.82 at 101 mph. i spin my tires pretty good in 1 st and 2 nd so my next mod is some wheels with drag radials. hopefully that will get me in the low 13's.

Sounds like you have a good car. If you ever encounter torque steer, I've actually heard of people putting different width tires on front to counteract it. They claim it works, moving traction and pull to the side with, say, a 245 vs a 225 on the other side. Obviously its key to get them the same diameter (e.g., 245/35s vs. 225 40s, etc.). but this trick is supposed to work with modded VWs, etc.

I guess alot of us use words in a slightly different meaning. To me, "ricer" means either: 1) a small-displacement (aren't they all) Japanese car, modified, usually garishly, with scopes, slots, dams, wings, lights, etc., and maybe real go-fast parts, too., or 2) the owner of that car.
But only Japanese cars. I don't consider VW GTI enthusiasts ricers nor Cobalt or Neon SRT owners.
Patrick
12-23-2005, 02:11 PM
in my opinion, "rice" is an insult directed towards a car that is physically modified (poorly) and it doesnt have the brass to back it up..
srt-4s CAN be ricers, here is a picture of one...
and for the record, find me a grandma driving an srt4...;)
LOL funny pic.....and yea SRT-4 is definitly a fast car from the factory. a friend bought one when they first came out, before anyone had one. scared me to be in such a small car going so fast

lmao.. no offense dude, but for the SRT 4 to be a grandma car, you gotta have one bad ass grandma. I know its faster than my car, therefore I respect it. Not to mention even though I can see how its a BIT ricer-ish its made by Dodge, and its American, so its not full blown ricer, and at least it can pull its own weight on the track, unlike Civics etc..

well to be honest the term 'ricer' is bigotry, it was used to classify a car made in japan and exported to america after all the wars settled down and we started acting like good children in the sand box.. i think the proper term many of you are going for, which would describe those young punk ass kids whos parents buy them their ****ty little 1.8l hondas and they turn them into clown cars would be 'Idiot' so.. with that being said, i opt for the word ricer to be changed to idiot :p
on another note, i recently sold my friend my first and last import project.. i had a 94 acura integra GSR with only a couple mods, plugs, wires, intake, exhaust and wheels/rims.
i sold it because i bought a 87 iroc with the 305.. he decided he wanted to see what this maro has so we took both cars out to the local street strip and ran them about 5 times back to back, and im kind of ashamed to say he beat me twice, but only by 1/4-1/2 car length each time and most of that was due to the fact that the camaro is an AT but the integra is MT, the time that i pushed the gears manually i left him behind by at least 3/4 of a car.
my rice burner was a fast lil ****er for the money i put into it, but at the end of the day no matter how fast it was... it was still an integra.
