So here is my question. I just purchased a 69 camaro from a guy and it has a X-44 on the cowl tag. I have been looking on the net and see all the X-44's are COPO's are clones. What makes it a real COPO.I am not completely dumb but how do you know if it a COPO or not? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

The X44 rpo is for a 'base coupe' However, the 'base' in this instance is for a street performance pacage that is not a Z28, SS or SS/RS. This Base coupehad all theupgraded stuff, just no badges, making cloning a COPO quite easy. A 454 425HP was standard for these "base" coupes.Look at the heater area, is it designed for a BBC or a SBC. Also if it has A/C (factory) I would say its not a COPO. Original COPO Camaro's are quite rare and quite valuable. I watched one a few months ago on Jackson Barret go for 450,000 bucks. For that I would imagine you would need authentic documentation.

The heater core from what I can tell is set up for a small block. So it is not a real COPO then?

COPO's came with a BBC. Do you have any pictures of it. or one of the cowl tag. I would think if its an original COPO the seller would have the build sheet or the Protect-o-plate.
