Default 305 crate engine swap

Hello everyone, Nate from Wisconsin here. I have a 2000 V6 convertible. It has 84,000 miles. The head gasket is leaking, so that got me thinking about doing an engine swap. I don't want a drag racer, just a nice cruiser with good low end torque and decent high end power. I can get a 305 truck crate engine from my local Chevy dealer for a very good price. Has anyone swapped a 305 or L31 350 into a V6 4th gen? If so, how difficult is it? And what would need to be done as far as transmission swap, etc? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The 305 is the worst small block out there, your 3800 is a better motor. The process of putting anything into these cars that is not designed to go into them is very detailed and complicated.

If you really want to do the V8 swap your best bet is to do a swap to a LS1. Since the LS1 came in the 2000 Camaro all the parts are there. if Money is an issue the look at the 5.3 truck motors they have the same basic design as the Ls1 motors. Check out the project section and look for swaps. Even then it is a lot of work. You can buy very low miles 3800's for cheap.

This is one of the most detailed parts lists for the 5.3 swap. If you can find a LS1 Camaro wrecked that would be the easies/cheapest ways to do the conversion. https://camaroforums.com/forum/93-02...v8-swap-78734/
