Check for Voltage on the small Red wire at the regulator plug, Should 10-12 volts with the key on.

That is how it works, but you may want to check that all the cables and connections, including ground cables between alternator, battery, and ground are tight and clean.

yes I did clean all connections, and checked alt to ground its self it has good ground.does pcm control charging or is it the gauge that triggers it on the small red wire? since I do have the volts on that small red wire with key on.

With the engine running, check voltage at the output wire on the alternator (big red one), should be in the low 14's. What is the voltage at there? Then check at the battery. It's not uncommon to have a .5~1 volt drop by the time power gets to the battery, but if you're in the 12 volts range at the battery, the issue is with your wiring.

With engine running, what is the voltage at the other (white?) wire on the alternator plug?
