There was no debris anywhere in the crankcase, none of the other pistons or anything were damaged, so there's no reason to believe any of that stuff is damaged. I'm just replacing these because I'm taking them apart anyway. Removing the crank will require a ton more tearup, which in turn will make this whole thing take even longer.

So I've got a question about piston rings. I got a set of Sealed Power rings from Summit, and they don't quite look the same as the ones currently on the pistons. As you can see, the new ones sort of have an up and down wave to them, whereas the other ones have kind of an in and out wave. Does it really make a difference, or is it basically two different ways of accomplishing the same thing with the same effectiveness?

it should go the way it is the strongest, steel edge to ring not bends. are you sure it won't fit. after looking it looks like they work either way, huh.

I think it will fit, these are the rings Summit said were for these pistons. I'm just worried about having two pistons being this style and the rest being the other style. Which style have you seen before? I've never done this kind of stuff.

Don't worry about the difference, different manufacturers can have their own styles like that. Not to mention, those are only the oil scraper rings, not compression rings. Not going to affect engine performance.

So I just heard back from the machine shop, they said the valve guides on my heads are totally worn out. A complete valve job and the necessary repair work would cost upward of $900...looks like I need to start looking at another set of heads. SMH.....

Dropped off the heads at Livernois to be repaired/rebuilt today. I also dropped off the old rods/pistons to have the new pistons fitted. I should get everything back in a couple weeks.

Man, you have had some times with this car. I have a 93 Z I am fixing to start playing with as soon as I get my truck. A lot of very good info in here if I run into trouble. Thanks for all the posts
