I have a 2000 V6 Camaro and it will not start. I was driving to school on Monday and it started rmping up high somewhere around 4000-5000 rmps at around 60 mph. I then pulled over worked put it in and out of gear a few times and took off. It started to do it again about 1/2 a mile later so I pulled over to check it out. I found out that the guy who had it before me put the wrong transmission dipstick in it and I was blowing transmission fluid out of my dipstick tube. I had it towed back to my house and my battery was dead so I charged it up and the car still will not start. I have no idea what the problem is. I bought this car as a project it needs a new interior and you can start it with a screwdriver. So does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? I am 19 and need all the help I can get.

To your transmission problem, I'd say it's toast. The rpm's climbing like that means the trans is slipping internally (bad clutches). That in turn will cause a lot of excess heat, making the trans fluid expand and burp out the fill tube. Be sure you could also hear the engine speeding up while the rpm's climbed, and that the tach isn't lying to you due to an electrical problem. If you know for sure the engine was speeding up, then the trans is slipping.
As for the engine not starting, not sure about that. One thing for sure is someone bypassed the VATS system in order to be able to start the car with a screwdriver. Did they do a hack job? Possibly, a screwdriver "key" is a good sign they may have.

 

Alright thank you.I forgot to mention this but before I had it towed I did get it to start it went about 10 yards and locked up and died. I'm thinking that on top of the transmission issue that either the security system locked up or my fuel pump went out. What's the best way to tell the difference between the two of them. I have no way to hook it up to an OBD2 scanner at the moment.
I can get it to kick over for about 1 second then it dies again. My grandpa thinks that it may be out of time.

 

If you start it with a screwdriver the vats security system isn't working correctly definatly I had a 96 fire bird that someone busted the ignition and it ran fine for awhile the out of nowhere it quit and I had to get a key to send signal to the vats system.As for tranny I've also had that problem I've had some ghetto 4th gens lol I think the shop said I had a valve stuck but the burping drained my fluid and burned er up.FYI before I took it to the shop it was spitting tranny fluid it puddled on the header and when I shut it off it burst into flames near catastrophe so be careful.
