Mass air flow sensor

Mass air flow sensor
Hi, I just bought a 1991 RS with the 305. The previous owner took out the old air filter unit and housing and replaced it with just a air filter on top of the carb/injectors. So the maf sensor isn't there anymore which is causing it to pulsate and possablu hot idle until warmed up? Is there anyway to bypass the mass air flow sensor? Thanks

The 305 TBI doesn't have a MAF sensor, which would explain why it's "missing". lol
I did the same air cleaner thing on my 91. The original air cleaner setup has an air temperature sensor in the base, and I swapped it from the old to new base. You can pick up a replacement sensor and do the same thing, the wires would/should still be there on your harness. Take a look here, it's the 4-prong sensor: https://camaroforums.com/forum/82-92...305-tbi-28278/

As mentioned above, it's the round 4-prong air temperature sensor that you want. Be sure to get the one for TBI (what you have), the one for a TPI setup is an air flow sensor. Here is the link to one on rockauto: 1991 CHEVROLET CAMARO 5.0L V8 Air Intake / Charge Temperature Sensor | RockAuto
In case the link doesn't take you directly to the part, it's AIRTEX / WELLS # 5S1009
In addition to that, from the factory there is a separate steel collar that snaps into the air cleaner base, that holds the sensor in place. This isn't part of a replacement sensor, and I don't think that is an aftermarket piece, it might/might not still be available as a dealer part. Best bet would be to go scrounging around a boneyard. TBI setups were put in a variety of cars & trucks, I'm sure you'd be able to find a used air cleaner base along with the collar and sensor. Or, you could always (neatly) silicone the sensor into place.
