the thing i've learned about using bondo is that you don't rush it. take your time and finish sanding with like 320 or 440 grit. prime it and see how it looks. if you can see the spot you just filled, you'll see it through the paint.

Sanding filler is not hard for me either and I agree dropping down past 180g after its roughed in will get it right usually. What I was refering to is bumping tin. Some of the guys that build a car with totally custom panels and leave it in raw metal because the metal work is so good. If you look at Rad Rides by Troy or DSE for example.

I know good body work when I see it, but I just rarely see it on my body work! I've never got the knack to getting my panels straight enough to hide what I did once they're shiny!

Polyester primer! Sprayable bondo. It hides those transitions between steel and mud well.

hey guys, havent done much with the car lately, been busy with other stuff. but i gotta get back on it. i stripped out the cowl yesterday. here's some shots

i have some questions about how things were done from the factory on these cars. cause it's a real Z28, i want to get things as close as i can back to looking like factory. please bear with me, i'm still learning all this GM stuff. any info will be greatly appreciated. with the cowl and wiper area, our car was painted body color. i've seen most other cars painted black. which is correct for factory original? once again thanks for all the help!

Mine is/was black from the factory. My 78 was the same. You have a Norwood car so the color of the floor pans should be red oxide, but the cowls as far as I know are all black and then a cut line at the windshield for the interior color.

thanks, the interior is black too so that should be easy. i got the kick panels out and it was all red oxide behind them.

now, what is the closest (to factory) brand for the black on the cowl? i'm guessing it was semi gloss. i use a lot of easewood's stuff. been happy with it so far.
