74 Camaro Engine Swap

74 Camaro Engine Swap
New to the forum, looking for a little tech advise. I have a '74 Camaro with a 250 six cylinder engine with a Muncie three speed transmission. Would like to put in a small block 350 and upgrade to a four speed. Does anyone have any basic advise/ideas on this or can direct me to a site that does? looking for the usual; will a 350 bolt up to the current motor mounts; will the current bell housing match up; will the current drive shaft work, etc. Thanks for your help! You just need the motor mounts for a V8. You should use the bell housing that comes with the 4 speed you buy. Really alot depends on what you end up buying. When I last swapped a 3 speed to a 4 speed in was just plug and play be it was a V8 car. Your going to want to go with a heavier clutch/flywheel. If it remember right my swap was saginaw to saginaw.
Things to watch for, your V8 needs to be tapped for your Z bar (clutch linkage), Your four speed needs to be drilled and tapped for the Camaro (rear mount) shifter.
I am sure other members will add more info.

you will need,.....radiator, throttle cable bracket, motor mounts (the upper half that bolt to the engine, your frame stands are the same) power steering pump brackets, alt. bracket, pulleys for the front of the engine, exhaust manifolds, and possibly the starter. Make sure the end of the crank is drilled to accept a pilot bearing. Your flywheel IF you go to a 350, or 327 (262, 305, 307, and 400 use a different flywheel) clutch, thowout arm, throwout bearing, and bellhousing, should be the same. If you want to go to an 11" clutch you will need a bigger bellhousing. you can convert the six cyl. to V8 and use the 3 spd. until you get the 4 spd and shift linkage. 3 spd to 4 spd is a easy swap. I believe 74 and newer 4 spd and linkage is what you want. Older will work but you will have to cut your floorboards. chev, buick, pontiac, oldsmobile, all use the same 4 spd trans. good luck hope this helps, Allen
