New to forums, New 1st Gen owner!!
I have always always wanted a 1st gen Camaro for as long as I can remember. Well, I finally got a hold of a pretty clean 1969 Camaro. It appears to have been restored (guessing here) 12-13 years ago or so? Kept in a warehouse ever since. I bought it from "not a car guy at all" he owned it for 11 years and drove it 1400 miles. Has 70k original miles. He hadn't driven it in 6 years and really couldn't answer any questions at all about the car. He told me it was NOT an SS, but it has a X22 cowl code, does have black grille, is a 4 speed, from the starting position of 12 oclock, it takes 2 full turns of the wheel to max out to the right (I read somewhere the SS has a quicker steer ratio then non SS cars) Car does not have the 396 and currently has a 10 bolt. not correct RPM gauge either. Can anyone please help me identify any other things to help identify a true SS car. I will post a pic of the cowl tag, could someone please help me identify if the rivets are original, replaced, been removed? Any info will help!!
I am very excited about finally owning this car and I love it!! HAHA Thanks

Those are hardware store pop rivets, the trim tag has been removed/transplanted. Here's what the original rivets look like: 1969 Camaro Trim Tag Identification and Decoding
The X22 is an SS396 code, but without the matching engine or documentation to back it up, there's no way to prove that trim tag came with that car.
See if you can find any signs of an original paint color; under the carpet at the threshold, or behind door or trim panels. Is it Cortez Silver as the tag shows?

Congrats on the buy of the Camaro.
As 69 suggests, wrong rivets - nice site 69!
BBC's did not come with 10-bolt rear axles, nor mono-leaf springs.
Look for an 'index card' sized plate welded onto the drvr frame rail behind the rear tire as this plate is for the dual exhaust hangar.
Another BBC fact, air cleaner stud should to the pass side by 1 inch from the centerline.
Engine code & partial VIN on pad should match the Camaro, engine maybe three months newer than Trim Tag.
BBC Heater hoses into heater box above frame rail rather than behind pass cylinder head.
What's most important is she is your Camaro - enjoy your new chapter.
