Possible new owner
Hey all! I’m looking at purchasing a zl1 today. Could use some input. I’m retiring here in about 2 years from the Marines so getting a little present for myself. I’m looking at this 2014 with 13k miles. What should I look for? My only concern is it’s a Canadian originally car. It’s clean everywhere no salt or anything. Thoughts?

See if the repair campaign has been done on the supercharger. The isolator fails and rattles noticeably at idle. If you don't mind wrenching on your cars, pick up a solid isolator and change it yourself. If you go this route, and have the lid off of the blower, replace the cooler brick with a reinforced unit. They can collapse and can leak coolant into your intake. It doesn't happen a lot, but it does happen and it's cheap insurance. The hardest part of this job is to remove the back bolts from the blower lid. They're a major PITA to reach but can be done with the right combo of swivels, extensions, and patience. Some people remove the plastic from their cowl and drill holes to access them. I wish I would have.
Mag ride failure is another complaint I've seen a lot of. Sometimes they leak but the most common complaint is an excessively harsh ride...like they're locked up. Other than that, they're awesome cars. I miss mine, but I sold it to buy a gen 1...and I made a good profit from it. Thank you for your service! |
Hey, Gunny, Canadian car? , when u have
car on lift, check for salt corrosion |
So you think you might be the new owner of a 2022 SS then? Congrats, that's a beast of a car. What made you finally pull the trigger and decide on a Camaro?
