2015 ZL1 Manual Trans Grinds 2nd Gear?
 

My girlfriend has a '15 ZL1 with 80K miles on it. She bought it used a few years ago with 50K miles on it. We've only been dating a couple months so I drove it for the first time this weekend.

The car is a blast to drive but it is very difficult to get it into second gear. If you rev it up to 4 of 5 grand it might slip in but most of the time it just grinds and won't go in. She says it has been like that since she bought it and she just goes from 1st to 3rd when driving it.

I'm not happy with doing that and want to fix it. I'm assuming it is just the second gear syncro but not real familiar with the 6 speed manual in this car. Is this a common issue with these? Anybody rebuild their trans before (or repaired a syncro in it)? I did some quick research and found take out replacements in the $1K range and reman'd for around $2K.

I'm a long time hot rod builder so not afraid to tear into a tranny but just don't have any experience with a TR6060 trans.

Edit: Seems to be a common issue with this transmission. I found a few videos of guys replacing fluid with Redline that helps somewhat but I think the syncro really needs to be replaced.

Synchro replacement should be on the upcoming list, unfortunately.
