polishing alloy wheels?

So i just bought a 85 camaro and it has some alloy wheels(no stock). They need a bit of a shine but not sure whats safe. I would use some general high end polish but not sure if i want to it oxydize or is thats gunna happen anyways.

let me rephrase that. I mean to give it a shine. I have been told to just use a mild soap and some water. Cause compounds, polish dont give it a nice finish.

RE: polishing alloy wheels?

I've been polishing aluminum motorcycle frame for a few years and have always used 3Ms heavy duty rubbing compuond to get through the oxidation and then hit them with some mothers. Once you get the oxidation off you'll have to touch them up about once a month (depending on weather or not it's garaged) with some mothers or polish of you choice.
