what kind of performance are you looking for?

a lot of people put oversized tires on factory rims even though it's not the best thing. a 255 is about as wide as you really want to go on an 8" rim and still get a full contact patch and best sidewall strength. lots of people put 275s on but it is totally the wrong size and can cause lots of problems

i had 255/55/16 on my s10 and a good friend of mine has 295/75/15 on his 72malibu without problems.... just make sure they are street tires and not slicks (3-4mm minimum tead depth)

your two examples (an s10 and a Malibu?)don't help answer his question at all[sm=alcoholic.gif]and on top of that you list a tire in a 15" size, without even mentioning the width.when he's asking about a 16" rim

BTW... there is no such tire as a 295/75/15. these are the reason I say do your homework before buying tires, because people will stuff anything on size rim and say it's fine, but they really don't know what they are doing or what performance they are sacrificing when they do stuff like that

im sorry, i just double checked and i have a bad memory........... here is the quote right off his website

"I purchased Centerline Convo Pro rims, 8x15 with B.F. Goodrich 245/60r15 front tires and 10x15 with Hoosier DOT Quick Times 275/50b15 rear tires. I mainly use this set when drag racing but also have a set of stock steel rally wheels with taller tires to help with short rear end gears when driving on the street."

notice thatthe sizes mentioned are forracing and his street sethas taller sidewalls......... and my s10had the stock rims.

the "Legal" part isn't necesarily what your after, specially if you live alot of rain/snow.. specter and silver mite jump in here, but there's some that are street legal, but should NOT be used on street.

what are you doing that you need wider tires? get zr1 wheels and run 315's in the rear.

i agree, if u want wide tires get rims to match. the widest u should go on ur car now is 255. if u can find a 10-11" wide rim go with 315's or 335s, i think eagle f1's get there, but they are way too expensive.

x3..

what do you have for rims at the moment? if thy're good looking. by a nice set of all seasons for it, then buy a set of 10" or so rims and tires, for weekend/track use. i think Torque Thrust II's are 10's. if you're limited on money for a second set of rims, i wouldn't push any wider than 255 on a 8", like every one else has said. and you still would prolly need 2 sets of tires, one for winter(if you drive in winter) and then your summer DD tires than can do good in water.

i like these.. it's what i plan on getting:

there's also a Kumho i like. i think it's a VR700

i think you need to tell us what your goals are for the car and what kind of money youre working with. right now im running 275/40/17 sumitomo HTR Z lll on 9.5 SS wheels. Great tires, very cheap.
