Nah, if you listen and read it apparently had a turbo'd corvette engine.

Nah not a corvette engine. Just a LS1.

Well the ls1 was used in corvettes too, i think. Although i thought they meant he had done an engine swap.

Its a joke among 4th gen guys. I cant tell you how many people come up and go "wow you have a corvette engine in that thing" at this point i just say "no its just a LS1" and they normally say something along the lines of "O well that sucks" and at that point i know they don't have a clue of what they are talking about.

To clear things up for any one on the forum that is not a 4th gen or LSX guy or girl the LS1 used in the camaro/firebird is the same exact motor used in the Vette. And that is where the little joke comes in.

I now have a set of LS6 coil covers on the TA. And i get more wows from people going "man that thing has a corvette engine" then i do from the little snail thing lurking under the hood.

Yes to the same motor (LS1), absolutely no to "exact same".
For comparison, the 2000 Camaro LS1 has 305 h.p., and 335 lb. torque.
The 2000 Vette LS1 has 345 h.p., and 350 lb. of torque. They're not the "same" engine.
Ever since the 1950's, the Vette always got the better stuff before the rest of the Chevy fleet.

As far as the engine goes they are the exact same. The 2000 and up F-body was rated at 320HP in the SS and WS6. We all know this to be under rated since most LS1 4th gens will dyno 290-300 at the wheels give or take about 5 ponies. As far as the engine goes they are almost the exact same with only a few small differences. The Corvette of course has a different intake and exhaust system and being GM's flag ship car you can expect them to out flow the F-body by a hair. If you look at the cam specs from the two cars you will see them very similar. In fact to the point that swapping out cams from the same year frame LS1 will gain no power in fact the 98-00 F-body had probably the strongest cam of the two (see below info).

F-body
'98-00 LS1 F-body .496/.496 lift, 202/210 duration 116 LSA
'01-02 LS1 F-body .467/.479 lift, 197/207 duration 116 LSA
Vette
'97-99 LS1 Corvette .479/.472 lift, 207/199 duration, 117 LSA
'00 LS1 Corvette .500/.500 lift, 209/198 duration, 115.5 LSA
'01-04 LS1 Corvette .479/.467 lift, 207/196 duration, 116 LSA

Now i could be wrong but if am not mistaken both cars have 1.7 rockers and the heads where the same and the bottom end's have the exact same components and are the same compression. They use the same block and same heads.

As far as dyno numbers go the vette might dyno a few ponies over a factory F-body. But we are talking about maybe 5-15 horses and i fill like most of that is picked up from the exhaust and intake on the vette (not differences in the motor)

Vette guys pull LS1's out of F-bodys all the time and claim they fill no difference in performance.

If i am wrong please fill free to correct me.
