raced my buddies DSM

a few weeks back, after i got my 150 shot tuned on the dyno, i raced my friends first gen DSM. He has a 57mm turbo, a gigantic front mount that came off of a supra, big injectors, custom tune and 19psi, full exhaust and some other minor things.

even though his car is AWD, he insist that we go from a roll (he doesnt wanna launch too had and break sh*t) so we agreed to a 20 roll with me going NA (NA i put down 333rwhp and 350tq). we go and i pull for a second then he spools and i hear the most terrifying turbo spool i can remember as he flies by me and pulls 2-3 cars. he won that one.

now its my turn.

we decide to hit it from a 30 roll with me spraying. we cruise beside each other and hit it. i have a 2/10 of a second delay till my n2o system sprays. so at first we're neck and neck. then i spray and pull hard as hell. im not sure how many cars i pulled but i was satisfied.

i give his car a ton of respect because its bad as hell in my eyes and it was all fun.

DSM's can be nasty. ive raced a few of them. one of them waxed me pretty good (before cam and spray) and the turbo sounded scary as hell lol. it didnt whistle like i expected, it screamed

good race man. Those DSM set ups are no joke

ok i hope no one flames me for this, but what is a dsm?

Eagle Talon, Mitsubishi Eclipse, and Plymouth Laser. Identical cars except for badging and paint. Check out the one in my sig.

Mine is 100% stock so it's not that scary- the only mod I've made is a remote starter. It's my winter car after all :p

Sounds like ye had some fun- DSMs can be pretty brutal when they're done up right, as you just learned. He would have been smarter to take you from a dig, to be sure.

dsm = diamond star motors

they made the first gen eclipse, laser, and talon. also were involved in some early 3000gt and stealth stuff iirc. basically think mitsubishi before the crank walk :D

I had an eclipse when they first came out, then a '97 eclipse then a '95 3000GT. Mitsubishi makes some really well made cars and they are very easy to work on... but I got a slick Camaro now *g*. I'd take the Camaro over the eclipses anyday... the 3000gt? thats a tough one. bad thing with those was if you had to take it to the shop for anything they charge you an arm and a leg to open the hood.

i thought it stood for diamond star motors, but i thought he was talking about a specific car

Saint Ebony 03-27-2009 08:35 AM

It does- but the term is most often associated with the Talon/Laser/Eclipse; the car itself is regularly referred to as a "DSM"

DSM's can be quick, sounds like you had a good time racing him though. That said...anything can be quick with enough time and money..
