my 93 z28 vs. 03 hyundai tibbi

My friend threw a tubro about a month ago into his 2003 hyundai tiburon GT V6, manuel 6 speed. He went from 180hp stock to about 240hp. He's the type that thinks imports own American cars, such as my 93 z28. Since he always talks trash about my car since he can't stand american v8's, i said i'll race him for pinks after he's done dropping in his turbo. So 2 weeks goes by he gets his turbo in the mail and drops it in 3 days later. Finally after a few test runs on a saturday night, he's ready. So i took him down to where we race on this street which is almost 1/4 mile long, maybe short by 10 feet if that. The street is never really in use and if it is, maybe 2 or 3 cars come through during the day. Anyways, where at the start as my friend counts down from 3. Right after 1 we take and he gets the launch on me. Where almost maybe 1/8 mile in the race when he's got about a good 2 car lead on me. But however, i don't know if it's my car or all other 93 z28's, but my car TAKES OFF when it his 45-55mph. At that point I pulled right past him, and won with a 2 1/2 car lead. The look on his face was priceless. I told him to keep his car and forget that we raced for pinks, I just wanted the big "W". I told him "next time, you won't have a car to race". And thats my story

Cool, what MPH did you race up to? Coming back from a 2 car split is pretty impressive...

What's done to your Z?

lol hell yea man i love it... not only was it import, it was a turbo... i've had some trouble beating some srt4 swaps that are turboed... its awesome when a naturally aspirated engine puts the stompin on a car with artificial boost...of any kind cuz theyre "not playin by the rules" great kill

Mna i never get to beat up on ricers. Around here thsy pretty much know thier role. There are a few Evo's and STI's around that are pretty quick, but they are not ricers IMO.

im not sure what my max speed was at a 1/4 mile, but i know the tibbi wasn't **** compared to mine. He's front wheel drive, so all his hp goes directly to his wheels, when mine is RWD, and it has to travel. Thats the only reason he had the launch on me. Doesn't matter, I've never lost to an import, i also raced quite a few people who had nissan 240sx's and owned the **** out of them. There like 160hp and they think its the fastest thing ever made. My advise to those people, GET A REAL CAR!

Front wheel drive is nowhere near as good as rwd for drag racing, fwd actually loses more more power to the drive-train.

Here is why. When a FWD car takes off hard, notice how the front end lifts a bit. This will take weight off the front wheels and allows then to spin more easily. The same lifting occurs on a RWD car, but the weight is being planted on the drive wheels, making it harder to spin giving better traction and quiker acceleration.
