Me vs. 96 GT
well a buddy of mine has a 96 gt. honestly his car is pretty beat. he hasn't maintained it all to well. But still he breags sometimes about how he has a v8 and he could take me any day.a while back we were driving to a friends house. i had 2 other ppl in the car and he was by himself. we come to a light and he pulls next to me. he reved his engine so i reved back. we take off at the light. i cam out about a car length ahead because he spun. But i didnt plan on racing him i was just messing around. after reaching about 30 i let off since the street was semi busy.
last night in our conversation this little incident came up. he says its because he spun but now he has new tires and would smoke me. he said he would even give me 2 car lengths head start. he wants to race on a road a couple blocks from my house. ( its pretty empty, they were going to make houses back there but they stopped, so no one usually is back on that road.) there are some light poles, its a little bit lest than 1/4 mile.. we are going to race this weekend hopefully. how do you guys think he will do? he has 96 GT stock. automatic. i have 96 rs. 3.8 5 speed with CAI and flow master. |
Hmm 96 was not the best year for the GT. He only has you beat by a little on horse power but he does have a good bit of torque. If the car is rung out bad and you can get him off the line you might be able to take him. If his car was in good condition it would be a lot different.

if you get a good launch, you might beat him....i go with you going to win, but not by much
|
im about 95% sure that ill get himon the launch.. he normaly just floors it and spins for a good while. so i think i got that part down.. all i gotta do is shift on time. and if i do beat him im sure he will use the "my tires spun" excuse.. but ive told him a race isnt all about the car!.

I think you should be able to take him, with a mix of him not being a good driver and you having a car that is close in specs to his, providing you don't screw up I don't see how you can lose!
|
well hopefully it goes my way.. ill try and get a video of it. either way ill post up the results

Make sure you stay in your power band and dont shift too high. Keep it wear its making power and you might be able to pull this one off.
|
Or just throw a 75 shot on there and watch him cry ;)
|
lol.. oohhh i was going to ask about that the other day.. what is my power band.. i usually shift at about 4500-5000 rpms.. too high? too low?
|
Nice run maroman, I can see you beating him. I have driven a couple of mid 90's GT's and, eh, it wasn't pretty. My first Camaro was a 96 RS 3.8/5sp.
It actually felt pretty quick - until I got my Z28.:D Is his car an auto or manual? |
