My V-8 5.4L F-150 2002 ate a 5.0L mustang and I got 3.73 gears front and rear. We got our cars up to 85 miles per hour. The mustang and the camaro bone stock, the camaro would come out on top. This is due to #1 displacement, #2 more torque for the 350 since they have longer connecting rods, #3 the gearing is for torque, #4 stock the camaro put out more hp and torque than a 5.0L. You do the math.

You'll thump him off the line but by the end of the quarter he'll blow you away. That 302 will spin up faster and the 2.73's will give him more speed at the end. You will run out of gear and unless your motor can sustain 7 grand you will run out of acceleration to soon. His motor will have power in reserve and yours will be out of breath. Low gears require alot of motor in order to make speed.

Chevy Forums are funny! No wonder it's so easy to beat these folks!
Where do they all come from???

Um, #2, Stroke helps torque a little bit too also #4, Hp to weight ratio is more significant and would give a better indication of which car would win.

I have a 79 camaro also and if you have 300 horse and decent gears you'll win. the 2.73 gearing in the stang is terriable for a 1/4 mile run. great if you wanna cruse at 85 on a highway all day at 2500 rpm's not so good at the strip. I'd bet your in the mid 14 second range. let us know how you make out.
