Tranny popping out of reverse

Tranny popping out of reverse
Hey all. I have a 5spd tranny. Tranny fluid was changed early last year. I just started driving it again this year and when I let the clutch out to go in reverse I hear a bang and it pops me out of reverse. I've heard it was a known issue with the t5 and it's the reverse gear that gets worn. Is there anything else I can do? It's always been hard to put in reverse since I got it, and I have to play around with the shifter to get it in reverse. I hope I don't need to replace the tranny. The forward gears seem to work great.

Well, I think I found my answer. Here's a technical service bulletin. I'm still interested in any tips or tricks anyone has.

I guess the question is how long do I have? Will it go in the forward gears too or will I eventually not be able to go in reverse? I'm going to check the fluid today and maybe add an additive to the tranny.
Will a 5-speed out of a 96+ Camaro/Firebird work? Will a 5-speed out of an older V6 work (88-92)?

I'm going to take out the center console this weekend and check the shifter in case it's not seated right or a spring is broken.
And, I found a shop that will rebuild my tranny for $500.00 if I take the tranny out and put it back in.
