My son's RS is leaking tranny fluid so I got a filter and some fluid. We changed it out. It is still leaking and leaks just sitting there. I think it is coming out of where the shift linkage goes into the transmission. Is that something that can go bad. I assume there is a seal of some kind in there. Does anyone know how to fix this or will I have to take it to the Transmission shop? I didn't notice anything in there when I had the pan off. I don't think the pan is leaking now.

is there a collection/condensation of fluid around the seal?
on any leak, theres usually a collection of whatever is leaking near the bottom of where its leaking.. for example, if an oil drain plug is leaking there will be oil on the tip of the plug that looks like its about to drip

manual shaft (shift lever shaft) seal is a place where fluid can come from. on my 4l60 is a easy job, im assuming its the same for a 4l60e. pull the shift lever off and pry the old seal out with a proper sized screw driver. install the new seal using a 14mm socket. while the seal is outa the way make sure there are no burr's on the shaft.

Thanks much! I have my daughters Nissan tore in a 100 pieces trying to replace the manafold gasket now then the camaro is next on the lift. I picked up a seal. Just didn't realize you could change it from the outside of the tranny. I'll let you know how it goes when the Nissan is fixed. (waiting on a hose :-(

Well, a lot has happened. Got the nissan back together then sold it. Got the seal in the camaro and that did not fix the leak. It slowed it way down but it is still leaking from the shaft.
Now the worst news...getting the fender painted and the guy called asked if I knew it had a blown headgasket? I was like..NO!!
So, what kind of PITA is a headgasket to replace?
I have been trying to do a search but the search function seems to broken and thinks and thinks then come back with no page displayed.

Ok I know this is kinda old but back to the poor camaro again. No headgasket problems all summer so I don't know why he said that BUT the shift shaft seal is leaking a LOT all over the shed floor. I even took it somewhere and they replaced it again now it leaks more then when I replaced it. Any advice? Is there a sleave or something I do to fix this?
I think it is the camaro from HELL....I just hit the shed when backing it in for the night.
