Default GM powered 1962 Ford F100

I have a question fellas. I have a 62 Ford pickup that has been modded with a stock 350/TH 350, I'm tempted to either keep it and build it to a 383 (my dream motor) or find a GM big block to throw in it (i.e. Olds 455, 472/500 Caddy, 454 Chevy) with a TH 400. I love the lines of a Ford with GM torque, I just hate hearing the whining of Ford purists, any helpful advice would be appreciated.

Welcome, Powerhouse.
JMT's, keeping the SBC design and stepping up to a 383 or bigger, all the way to SBC 454, would be cheaper as all the accessory brackets/pulleys, etc., are in place and would transfer to another SBC design block.

Period correct would be a Buick, Olds, Pontiac, or Caddy power since Mark IV BBC wasn't on the market yet until 1965. If one of these brands were chosen, you would need their specific trans to bolt up to the block as Chevrolet bolt pattern differed from the rest. But there are adapter kits.

If going with BBC power, might look for a 4L80 GM trans, THM400 with overdrive, to bring the Ford's rear gear, 3.90:1(?), check glovebox for tag/decal, into check via overdrive.

True, if I could find an Olds/Caddy/Buick motor I'd buy it in a heartbeat, then again, I haven't seen a 4th gen F100 with a 383. So many choices.

Get a stroker kit for the block you have in their now and make it a 383 stroker. Put the bow tie emblem on the front of the ford grill and hold you head up HI. I did the same thing last spring with a vortec headed 350 with some free and used parts. Stuck it in a fox platform with a th350 with a little stall and a 4.10 gear and ran 12.21 at a 110mph. Got band from the Midwest mustang association for telling the group how to make a slow mustang fast. Those ford guys go balistic when you try to help them go fast. One nice thing with the ford is the rear end is a 9 inch.

Nothing makes HP cheaper than a big cubic inch Chevy motor swap. Around here a good solid 454 goes $500-$600, and I gave $500 for mine. I could care less about Ford guys whining over Chevy engines in a Ford. In fact half the reason I put a 454 in my '63 Falcon was to tick off the Ford guys, and see their reaction when I tilted the frontend open! I still love seeing their faces, and listening to the whining!
And as Chuck said, I like built Ford Tuff with Chevy Stuff!

I love old fords with chevy running gear. you could just build the 350 as well. I have a built 350 sbc in my 33 ford pickup. has a comp 280 cam, dart sportsman 2 heads, popups, and edelbrock dual fours, thing runs really hard.

I made my decision. I'm keeping the 350, and possibly stroking it out to a 383. Unless I get a few grand to build me a high cubic inch big block Chevy that is. I see people cross breed Chevy engines with Fords all the time, mainly because it's cheap and easy horsepower that lasts forever. I see why you guys do it.

I do have one question... would an Olds 350 Rocket have good enough torque for my truck? I love Olds engines and if I could find one, I'd use my Chevy 350 for another project. I made it clear to myself that I wouldn't use Ford power anyway.... GM all the way.
