ok buff your wrong and right first a turbo doesnt kill mpg it actually doesnt affect it at all turbos use spent exhaust gasses but you do need to pump a little more fuel into the cylinders so youll prob loose like 1-1.5 mpg now im like 98% sure he wont need to do to much to the engine as the 3800 came as a SC car and gm made them all the same (engine internals) altho he would prob need to work the valve train a little

now what youll need

turbo kit - prob around 2000$
intercooler - around 500$ (unless it comes with the turbo but that one is prob junk)
upgraded fuel system - 200-500$
turbo headers - prob need to be custom maybe some where between 500-1000$

ill stop there i can smell your wallet burning

ohh dont forget the tune

not trying to side with buff here but he is right if you want a fast car you should look into trade in the 3800 and getting an LS1 unless you want to spend the money and have your car out of commission for at least a month and then have to mess with it for just about ever

also if gm made 2 diff 3800 (SC ready and NA) there really dumb lololol

Yes, but a turbo requires that the engine be built. This definitely has an effect on MPG's. He's also going to need an upgraded transmission and probably a new rear end. That is some serious $$.

Just did research and you're right. The T5 will do with a 325 lb-ft torque rating. I didn't think that it was that stout. The rear end will depend on if this guy will want to run with taller gears.

id deff say swap in a SS rear tho what good is all that power if only 1 tire spins

but ya the 3800 is a beast it was placed in the top 3 engines ever built this year and the drive train is good to as long as everything is taken care of now if the trans fluid had 150k on it and the diff fluid has never been changed and the engine oil goes for 10k every time than your sol

you should just spray thats funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Is the SS rear stronger? The only differences that I've learned was that some V6's didn't have posi and some have drum brakes.

By 2002, I'm pretty sure that they all were disks.

Sadly the LS1 10 bolts aren't strong. It isn't uncommon for a 10 bolt to quit on stock power levels. When I bought my WS6 with ~43k miles on it, a bearing was already shot and an axle shaft was being torn up.
